Torpado bottom bracket - easy answer?
 

Hi folks. I picked up an old Torpado frame this afternoon and am in the process of deciding if I want to build it up or just flip it on eBay. It's no great shakes - the paint is faded, it's not that light - probably a lower-end model - but it's charming. I like the lugwork. The chrome is decent.

It came without a bottom bracket. I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that the bottom bracket shell is Italian threaded. Does anyone know if it's a complete crapshoot as to what kind of bottom bracket it actually takes? Or did they pretty reliably use the same kind of bb? If so, what are the details?

Multiple ways you can check with an open shell. As Italian BB's are fixed cup right-hand thread just look at the threading! Double check with the width of the shell - should be 70mm. Triple check by inserting a standard cup - should slide in, as Italian diameter is 36mm, and English is 1.37" (34.8mm)

If the shell measures 70MM wide, you may safely assume it takes an Italian BB. Actual spindle length is determined by the crank you choose.
