Saver for mangled derailleur hanger on frame?

The problem started with gears 5,6, and 7 working fine but jumping from 5 to 3 and erratic behavior. I could not get shifted into 1st. This is with a brand new Shimano 7 speed freewheel, almost new Sora long cage RD, and new SRAM grip shift. I unhooked the RD and used an adjustable wrench to bend the hanger outward. This managed to mangle the threads. I drilled out the threads so the derailleur bolt fits through - but it's not long enough to fit on a nut.
This hybrid is turning out to be too much pain - I had to cold set the dropouts earlier

If it had hortizontal drops I'd convert to single speed but it has vertical drops. Is there some it or trick to rigging up the RD?

Thanks

Edit - I see they are called "dropout saver"
