Black plastic ring on top of Shimano 600 headset...

Mine is split.
Is it necessary to replace?
Where can I get a replacement?
What is it for?
Just keeps water out?

it has an O ring channel in it.

You misspelled Bleak. But if it bothers you that much, paint it a happier color.

Totally not a big deal. Leave it in place for the sake of cosmetics, replace its function with grease.
