Makes sense. I'll get get some pictures. The brakes are Tektro brakes, no model number that I can find on the brakes. The reach is too long, my hands are small. They also are a bit hard to pull. And, I don't find the stopping power all that great.

Dia Compe/Cane Creek had compact brake levers. IDK about current stock..

the lever had a different bend to come back closer,
to reach from the drops, with small hands.

Bikes: too many

hard pull could just mean they need new cables.

I bought the bike used but it was barely ridden and looks like it wasn't ridden at all. Instead, it sat in a garage for a couple of years. The cable looks like brand new. It moves freely in the housing.

Bikes: 87 RockHopper,2008 Specialized Globe. Both upgraded to 9 speeds. 2019 Giant Explore E+3

The somewhat "stock" answer to weak brakes is to get some Kool Stop pads.

Parallel wire brake housings as opposed to spiral wire brake housings firm up the brake action considerably, really cutting down on lever sponginess. Yokozuna make these and I've recently heard that Jagwire is making brake housings like these.
