SRAM PowerLink - repair or replace?

Good knights of the wrench,

I had a chain decouple as I was riding. This has never happened to me before. It came as a bit of a surprise.

My fav C&V bike has a PC870, still with quite low miles. It is my first or second chain I've used with this Power Link thing. (Yeah, I'm c&v, too.)

The PowerLink is what came apart. The link piece that came apart still seems straight, although the pin was wrenched out. The other link half remained intact, but has a distinct twist in the plate that does not show in the photo (below).




Again, as my experience with these links is nil, do I use needle nose pliers to straighten, push the pin back in the other half, and then put it back onto the bike to use it? OR, will that twist guarantee that it will, again, come apart in use -- perhaps this time to a bit more nasty result?

Thoughts and opinions welcomed.

Throw it away, or frame it, but don't put it back on the bike. A new link is cheap.

Do I buy another powerlink, or just use a spare link and go old school?

You have to use another power link. Modern chains cannot safely be spliced "old school". Some use a special closure pin (Shimano, Campagnolo) and others use a connector (Sram, KMC) but none can be spliced otherwise.
