700C tyre size?

I've just finished replacing the wheels for my bike and, since my bike now looks great, my Dad wants to change his tyres too.

Normally when I want to switch tyres, I look for the size of the tyre on the wheel. My Dad's tyres say " 28 x 1 3/8 x 1 5/8".

When I put this size into ebay, I didn't get many hits. I then remembered that, when I originally ordered the bike, the wheel size was 700C.

I just wanted to check, if I got 700C tyres would they fit on this bike?

You ordered 700c wheels, use 700c tires. The "28x 1-3/8~5/8" is the same as 700c x 35-43. Pretty standard.

700c = 28 inch = 622. Depending on where you live and what wheel/tire sizing terminology you use.
Common for tires to have multiple variations of the same size on the sidewall.

Hi,

In this case for X" by Y" by Z", " 28 x 1 3/8 x 1 5/8 ".
X and Z indicate 700C/622mm and Y = 35mm tyre width.

Don't ask me why 28" x 1 5/8" = 622mm and is independent
of the actual rim width, and there is no need to use the same
width replacing tyres, best go for the fattest that will fit, IMO.

rgds, sreten.

Yes, those are 700x35 tires, or 37-622 in ISO 5775 specifications.

Whenever you have the chance, stay with the ETRTO designation, two straight up numbers like 622 x 28. The inches and fractions have oh so many more chances of leading you wrong. There's like 5 different sizes all called 26" for instance

That made me laugh!

I've had a look on ebay, but the tyres I would like to get (whitewall ones) are slightly smaller at 700C x 32mm. Will these still fit my rims?

(I know the size difference is only 3mm, but I would like to make sure).

Yes. Generally rims are sized to accept 28 mm and less, or 28 mm and greater.

Hi,

Its your call but tires with reflective strips would be my choice.

Michelin City is a tough, long lasting, puncture protected tyre with the strips.
come in 700 x 28, 32, 35, 40 and 47, IMO fit the widest that will fit.
Run at lower pressure the fatter tyres will be more comfortable.

Bikes: 2008 Novara Randonee - love it. Previous bikes:Motobecane Mirage, 1972 Moto Grand Jubilee (my fave), Jackson Rake 16, 1983 C'dale ST500.

It's highly doubtful that the ERTO size 622 x XX is not somewhere imprinted on any tire one is replacing, with the exception of some extremely old tires.

Yes, no problem. 700C tires all fit the same diameter rim. So-called 29-inch mountain-bike tires also fit, but there are other issues with rim width. 3mm in width is inconsequential.
