replace drop bars with straight bars?
I bought a road bike with drop bars and swist shifters , I come to not like the bars, as I have cronic tension headaches due to my neck muscles never relaxing and the bent over position seems to make it worse and makes my jaws hurt too.
I have a old mnt bike that also has twist shifters on the handlebars. Is it possible to swap the whole handle bar out and use the mnt bike break levers and shifters on the road bike? I know I need to meassure the cable lenghts but if they are long enough I could cut and adjust the tension right?
Only thing is the road bike has 7 rear gears while the mnt bike has 6. But I could do without 7th gear.
Would this idea work?

Hi,
Chop and flip the bars into bullhorns.
Though twist shifters on drops always involves some complication.
rgds, sreten.
MTB levers usually wont work with road bike stuff.

I'm guessing GMC Denali.
If so the stem has a large clamp diameter but I've yet to determine if it's 31.8mm. If it is then you can get a bar of the same diameter and some brake levers (make sure you get levers that can be set up for cantilevers, as V-brake levers won't work as well with the Denali's calipers).
You can use the shifters from the Denali and you'll still have all 7 gears unless you're thinking of moving wheels over from your MTB, but that would really start to complicate things.

If I were in your shoes I'd just sell the Denali on CL, then go to Performance Bike and get some slicks for the MTB

I did put road tires on the mnt bike, but the gears dont change right , the front wheel wobbles and and it weighs 48 pounds, the denali shifts great and is 18 pounds lighter. Maybe i should sell both on CL
And buy a road bike hybrid.
You guys think the denali twist shifters will fit the mnt bike bars? Both bars look nearly the same size. The whole mnt stem is the same size, i could replace the whole thing.

Hi,
The Denali bars are complicated. You tell me. If they split in the
middle you can flip and chop the bars into bullhorns, much easier.
rgds, sreten.
I think the Denali is a great bike for the price.
I flipped and chopped the bars on my budget road bike.
Very similar to, but not the brake cables under the bar tape :

I think we should have a separate forum named: "Bar Changes". We seem to get about the same number of questions about going from drop to flat bars as we get about going from flat to drop bars. With a central forum, these folks could swap parts and save everyone money.
