Bar End Shifter Compatibility

I have 8 speed Shimano (BS64) shifters and a 105 derailleur (RD5701).

I can get a pair of Microshift 10sp shifters for a decent price.

1) Would they work with the "body" of the Shimanos, just unscrew the actual shift lever? Or, would I have to replace the whole assembly??

2) Will they work with the RD that I have??

Thanks.

If I'm reading this right:
https://www.microshift.com.tw/SL-D10_Shifters.html
and
https://www.microshift.com.tw/install...microSHIFT.pdf
1. yes
2. yes

If you run into problems, well... my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I don't even follow what's going on. Are you saying you want to convert to a 10 speed cassette? Is there anything wrong with those Shimano bar end shifters?

As a passing thought, I found some 9 speed

and 10 speed Microshift bar-end shifters

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

What I think you're saying is that you want to mount a Sunrace DT shifter on the Shimano bar end mount.
I doubt if you can. I know that there is incompatibility with Sunrace DT shifters and Shimano DT shifter mounting hardware and I suspect it is the same for bar end shifters.

Why change to 10 speed? 8 speed cassettes and chains are so much cheaper, and, longer lasting.

Where did you read that? All the OP asked about was Microshift shift levers and, AFAIK, they use the same mounting bosses as Shimano.

Thanks, everyone.

I wanted a 12 or 13t to 30 cassette since I don't use the 11t on my current cassette at all.

I found a new Tiagra 10sp 12-30 for twenty-five bucks, shipped, and bought it.

I just needed shifters.

It looks real good for the chances of making the Microshifts work so I got them.

The OP said Microshift 10 speed shifters not Microshift 10 speed bar end shifters.

The male notch in the part that mounts between between the frame and the shifter is a different width on Sunrace DT shifters than on Shimano DT shifters. The female notch on the shifters is similarly different. I believe this is intentional to make them incompatible. I would not be surprised to find a similar incompatibility with Sunrace vs. Shimano bar end shifters.

Both Sunrace and Shimano DT shifters and hardware mount on the same frame braze-on but the hardware and shifters are not interchangable.

You guys keep mentioning Sunrace shifters. Are Microshift components made by and identical to Sunrace?
