Ultegra chain installation

I have a 10sp Ultegra chain with missing link installed. I took the chain off to clean and reinstalled. Now the gears just don't seem to shift as well. I am wondering is there a certain direction the Ultegra chain should be installed?

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

Older Ultegra 10-speed chains (CN-6600) were not directional. The current Ultegra 10-speed chain (CN-6700) is directional and has to be installed in it's preferred orientation. Look at the instruction sheet that came with the chain (you did keep it, right?) or go to Shimano's Tech Document web site for details.

As suggested I flipped the chain to see if there was any difference. Sure enough problem solved. Thanks for the help folks.
