Thanks cyccommute, I cranked on the clamp more than on any fd i ever installed, 3 to be exact.
I was thinking about trying to come a laterally adjustable braze on clamp which shouldn't be difficult if I can get good geometry for the fd to clamp.
I also thought about tring to come up with something along the lines of a travel agent to change the actuation of a mtb fd to make it work with STIs and found Shimano filed a patent for such a derailleur in 2013,

I wonder if it will ever make it to market...

I haven't had a chance to read the whole thing as im on my cell only for the next day but will print and read it when i get home as I'm not sure it describes what im thinking of. In any case a travel agent like gizmo if it isn't too bulky for a fd would be my ideal soluton.
