No. The driver has no pawls on it like the NIG hubs. It is splined to the ring gear on the outside, and the clutch on the inside. There is a neutral position between 1st and second which you will find if the shifter is not accurately adjusted, but that is due to the sliding key fitting between the sun gears, not because of the clutch slipping between the ring gear and the planet carrier as in the old 3 speed design.

Oh wow, i've watched a few videos of yours!

I'm getting the impression that I'd have to build the wheel myself if I were to get the S3X.

Not necessarily ..

there are Distributors that will build wheels , combining the parts they carry. 2nd lowest parts cost, other than the manufacturers them selves

then they ship the assembled wheel to the Retailer. check with your favorite LBS.

Good to know. I wasn't planning on buying a truing stand any time soon.
