Seek advice on headset. Thanks!
I am looking to find the correct headset for my MTB - Zero Stack or Integrated Standard.
The frame is a Swedish Crescent. Probably a first generation aluminium frame with oversize tubing from around the year 2000. Size of headtube/steerer is 44/28.6 | 44/30.
It had a semi-integrated headset installed. When I dismantled the headset I discovered that the headtube was machined and had an inside bevel, both top and bottom. It might need an Integrated headset.
I spoke to a tech guy who said that a Zero Stack headset was probably the correct one because of the age of the frame. However, at Park Tool they list (as obsolete) an integrated headset which would fit the headtube:
Integrated-angular contact
1-1/8" steering column
36 x 36 degree contact
There is a picture of the headtube here:
monoform.com/temporar/headset/
Any help would be much appreciated!
Best regards!

This is one of those times when a trip to a good bike shop is in order. The contact angles sound like the Campy standard to me but a first hand look-see is better than any estimates.

Integrated headset frame machining varies as to intended OEM pick of parts . Un Knowable without 1st hand inspection
Campag and Cane Creek, 2 main line choices are quite different.
a stop by the dealer that sells Crescent bikes , (are you is Sweden? ) would be Ideal.

Yes, I am in Sweden so I should be able to find a good Crescent shop.
So it is your opinion that the headtube is made for an Integrated headset?
I know a little about the different angles:
Campy 45 x 45 degree
Cane Creek 36 x 45 degree
FSA standard: 36 x 36
I have to take it to the bike shop to find out the angle.
Thanks again!
Best regards

Yeah, Campy is indeed 45x45 seat angles. Sorry for the misinformation.
From your picture the headtube does seem to require an "integrated" headset of some type. Note that integrated and zero stack are not identical

Shop would know what the OEM parts pick was in the 1st place , since they can look it up .. call the factory, etc.
I just have 1 Integrated headset Bike ..it falls out when I loosen the stem, w/o top Cap on, if Wheel is not on the ground..
so I got a Problem Solvers Pinch bolt spacer, It goes on top right above the upper headset race cover.
to adjust the bearing it is another bolt to back off , but it did let me stop dropping the fork in other situations.

That Problem Solver spacer/clamp is great for stem trials and adjustments on a new bike. It save's readjusting the headset when trying different arrangements on the side of the road. Swap and go.

At Park Tool, the only who headsets that would fit the frame headtube inner diameter are:
Zero Stack ZS44.
(The obsolete) 36 X 36 degree contact integrated, 44mm.
Campy is 41.8mm.
Thank you for the tip about the Pinch bolt spacer! It looks great.
Best regards!

They are also great for travel and S&S coupled bikes where you have to remove the bar/stem combination to get the bike in the packing case.
