can i convert a threadless headset to use with a threaded fork?

by replacing the topmost bits with the topmost bits from a threadless headset?

i can get my hands on a barely-used 1" no-thread chris king headset for next-to-nothing, but i need a threaded headset.

can i just get the grip-nut top part from CK and use the rest of it? (it's just cups and bearings and a fork race, right?)

you can get a decent fork for less than the price of that headset, so why not try it? let us know how it works, too.

Get the King headset for your next-to-nothing price, then sell it for a profit and buy a good threaded headset for your threaded fork. Don't try and fit a square peg in a round hole.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Actually, Chris King actually sells conversion kits to turn a 1" NoThreadSet into a threaded one. QBP part number is HD7810 for silver or HD7812 for black. Your LBS is going to want around $25.00 or $30.00 to order it for you.
