Almost want to rate the trip by halves as the first half was golden!
Second half started with Juliette Rd and someone getting their garse up on their shoulders because they had to yield a right turn (not that they were initially going to stop) at the crosswalk. Then roared through just after I passed. Quite a few Strava Strafers after the 9am hour started, as well as a lot more foot traffic. Failure to yield at one of Gomez's crosswalks in Clarkston. See, Mr. "City Manager", people DO follow your lead (and ignore state law)....

"YOU BELONG ON THE ROAD!!!"
Gomez's Goons on the MUP again with their trucks.
Half n half on the crossings, some actually stopping
DeKalb Co. Water Management supervisor truck not yielding the crosswalk.
Peds with Pods and buds in abundance today.
Strava Strafer wanted to know if that sound (AirZound) was coming from my brakes?

Whadda day....

Have to laugh. When I saw the phrase "blocked by the City of Clarkston" I knew that it had to be Clarkston, GA. Atlanta is the most clueless of any city I've ever lived in when it comes to bicycles. That's saying a lot. Even Houston and Dallas have more consciousness.

The other day I was cycling in Piedmont Park and found a Trees Atlanta truck parked right in the walking/cycling path. I stopped to talk to them, asking if they couldn't just park on the already mulched part right off the path. The very nice gentleman that I talked to said that the City wouldn't allow them to do it. They couldn't be off road. So even though the park is for my use, and even through the Tree's Atlanta services are for me, my needs are not important. Only the city's. Makes you kinda cynical about government, huh?

Not that any of us have any other reason to be cynical about government.

Gasron Gomez's Gashole Goons on the MUP again. He is such a gasturd....

Otherwise got a near golden ride. A few "here I am" notification beeps and people did what they should

Now, if the "manager" of Clarkston, GA could just buy a clue....

It only takes one!

And the real reason to be so vigilant on this car maniacal side of town (ok, anywhere, in Atlanta). Overall ride, and MUP traffic, was awesome.... The parts surrounded by trees, are beautiful and calming. Before getting there, however, there is Clarkston. "As above, so below, so not surprising that, in Mr. Gomez's town, a private work truck was parked on the path. The approached worker admitted to ownership, but dithered when told it was illegal and to move it. More later....
On Ponce, the cager follies: Another water works truck failure to yield at Roadhaven and, just up the road ANOTHER tractor trailer gashole who couldn't wait. If you can't tell by now, cyclists, EXPECT them to threaten you from both the parking lots AND streets. They are accomplished Richards....

Meanwhile, back in Clarkston.... The truck is still there. but with police now. And, now, for your moment of Zen: The police vehicle is parked on the sidewalk behind him....
I am perturbed by the following hypocrisy: while the truck op was obviously wrong, I had asked this same patrolman to address the city trucks on the MUP approx a week ago, he said he would, and the intervening week put the lie to any effective enforcement/prevention. So Mr. Gomez, and his govt, gets to jack up the private citizen (appropriately), but routinely commits the same offenses...

If I'm catching your drift, this sounds like the weekly discussion I have with my best friend... inevitably ending in his saying, "Unlike me, you still have hope in mankind!"
In the past, absolutely, now:
Edwards : People are smart. They can handle it.

Kay : A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.
That's humanity behind the wheel....

Today:
Early-ish morning and, without the cagers, a most golden ride.... Everything happened at crossings, and all failures to yield.... Top of the Gashole awards to the deaf Richard with the stare that said, "babies in strollers will be dozered with no remorse." The true hope for humanity....

Did not, thankfully, witness this one, but saw the aftermath. Remember, above, the woman who nearly left the road going too fast into Stone Mountain Village? Someone did it! Left skid marks across the MUP, and tire gouges till running into the bumper high boulders put for that purpose....

Just hope no one else suffered....

Freakin' cagers....

Digger, I need some help. I'm new to your narrative style. I enjoy reading your posts, but there are some words I don't understand. Could you please tell me what these mean:
MUP
Richard and Rickie Cager
Muppets
Gasrons
"dead red runners"
McMotor
ICE ops
Gomez's Goons
I'm not trolling you (which of course I would say if I were trolling you, but now that I said I'm not, you know I'm not, right?). I really can't decipher these things.

Sure
MUP: Multi-User Path
Richard (and Rickie): is because I can't say DIC(tation)... a Cager is a motorist (and they act like caged animals)
MUPPETS: Multi-Use Path PerPETratorS
Gasrons:Morons that use gas (could it be IQ drain from the fumes?)
De(d) Red Runners: motorists that run the light w/o even making it under yellow
McMotor: a play on the mickey D phrase, someone slavishly addicted to the motor vehicle paradigm.
ICE Ops: Internal Combustion Engine Operators
Gomez's Goons: the maintenance workers for Clarkston, GA's "manager" Robin Gomez.

CCC: Cagers at the Clarkston Crosswalks!
Started the trip with three trolliphants (bumper to bumper, like eliphants tail to tail) speeding through the first crossing. Saluted them all as they were only thinking of #1 .... Last in line decided she wasn't really in a hurry and wanted to rationalize indignantly So Rickie Cager sits in the middle of the lane till I roll by, on the MUP, and parallels me, spewing invectives.... Both because I've heard it all before, and because her gutter language was unintelligible except for F ire tr UCK, I gave her a three point lecture at 20-25 mph. Reminded her to yield at the crossing; not to argue when she is WRONG!, and not to talk that way "grand daughter" to someone obviously her elder.... She sceams out, "I don' give a FiretrUCK!" To which I smiled and said, "You should... it would make you a better human."
She literally sceamed down the road (voice and car). Sometimes a woman acts so "Richard" you'd think she was a transvestite....
Passed the Goons working off the MUP for a change "Wow, you actually found a road to park on!"
Except for the cager elephantine routine at the six lane Mountain Industrial Blvd crossing, a clean, serene rest of the ride.

Took the weekend off. Let the Strava Strafers and cagers deal with each other... avoided the group rides.

Today
Got out earlyish, 8am, and got in a good ride... if only cagers could look and wait outside the crossings. ...

Near perfect ride today. Yet one crossroad crossing Richard had to be doing 30+, storming to the line (which he crossed, ofc) and only looking left. Forced me to break hard, then copped an attitude....
Really?! Who made you speed, stop beyond the bar, enter the crossing, impede legitimate traffic, and menace another life...?

Just curious....

Early morning 5:40 ride since my work starts telecommuting again. FULL MOON and, despite lower volume of traffic, gasholes made up for it with magnitudes of motor truckerness....

Unholy troller, with his "trust" in his imagination and his head anally impacted, turned across my lane with his micro-bus.... Beezlebub got blessed out for sure.... Drivin' like hell....

Comin back from the village, had to wait on two muscle (headed) car gasholes totally blocking the crossing at, yep, Julliette Rd. Left my light on brightest flash for these crass gasturds.... Self serving tire tools in all their glory.

Better luck tomorrow morning....

"Driving" delinquents just don't have the conscience (or conciousness) to know where the stop bars and crossings are....

As the old music joke goes (at all crossings on the MUP) C sharp, or B flat(tened)!

Started and ended at the first/last crosswalk (Church St, Clarkston).... First gashole blatantly blasted through (Had I blasted through, it would have been minimal car damage, with likely totaled bike, dead cyclist, and no motorist fault); second waved "apology" after waking up from his lap fixation.... . How about feeding the bulldog, and actually paying attention?!

Seems, if it was another 2 or 4 wheeler, it was pilot-ed by a narcisstic, self-consuming, ego-elfin-tistical piece of offal today.... Like a beaver colony, it was just one dammed thing after another... totally distracted and fixated Infernal Com-butt-sion Engine-rears and their group-riding, Strava-strafer elephant acting, feces eating, two-wheeled equivalents on the MUP....

When these gas, and gas-less, anti-existence, lowest denominators finally pile up at a crossing/intersection, would someone please toss a match in their midst....

Edit: Saw a transfer dooly ("The Beast" on the doors) hauling two unmarked, white vans. Could only think, "weapons system delivery for Amazon...."

10 mile quickie last night to get my wife a little something, going west. A few tangential cager foolishnesses, but a really mellow ride with car ops responding well at crossings.

I am convinced that nothing short of railroad crossing arms, and projecting spikes, will solve the problem of gasturds being in the paint where the law says they can't.... Frell!, I've seen the police blissfully ignoring it....

Richards in d!ck-up trucks accounted for over half the failures to yield. Too many couldn't-care-less dipsticks in the metro (what?, focus my attention and SLOW DOWN (?!!!) for an insignificant life on an insignifcant conveyance? Ain't no cop around!)

Props to the county trash trucker who actually paid attention and carefully reversed out of the crossing, all BEFORE I got there!

Early morning and the planets nearly aligned! Had to be interrupted by an old fart in a painters truck that couldn't buy a clue on Wheel of Fortune.... Juliette Rd., ofc....

Otherwise, sweet ride to either side (and throughout) the 6-7am hour

The planets stayed aligned and any possible interactions with motorists were either easily avoided, or they did the right thing in yielding at crossings.

Out in the streets, away from the MUP and crossings?

Digger: I know this is your blog, and as a writer I hate to kibbitz someone else's writing. (Well, that's not usuall true. Rather, I hate to be seen doing it.)

I have this thought. What I would be interested in reading from someone like you who knows this trail (and other local routes) really well is details on the trails, surroundings, etc. The stats on the number of axxholes was interesting for the first few hundred posts, but then it pretty much just all merges together by now. But I'd love to have your knowledge as your experience grows deeper and deeper on the trails. Does that make sense? Again, I know I'm kibitzing, but I thought you might appreciate a reader's perspective.

I do to a certain extent. The reason I haven't reported in the last week is similar to your thoughts, but from the opposite side: nothing seems to change. Last week was like so many others.

So, what I was going to write is just the above (in so many words): The East side, Stone Mountain Trail, is a highly dangerous place for the unaware. One moment's distraction will get you hurt by motorists. All road crossings and road portions require extreme caution and diligence. On MUP, beware of parked vehicles, group rides, distracted/wired pedestrians, the occasional loose dog, and children (not their fault, they are just inexperienced).

My blog was just for my (mis)adventures in motorland... I just use the SMT MUP regularly....
