I picked this up a an action today for five bucks. All i know about it is that its a gt and it has alot of rust on it. I dont really mind it beacuse im a kid and i have a lot of time on my hands to clean it. Does anyone know what model it is or anything else about it?

i dont think the forks r bent. I think it just be the angle of the camera or its ur imagineation. I took most of the rust off it with an SOS pad this morning and it looks alot better. I also took it for like an hour bike ride it worked great.

I find it amusing that kids that aren't even of driving age, who ride around on bikes that only cost a few hundred dollars, can be such bike snobs. How can you knock a $5 bike?

I think at 5 bucks, that was a deal. That bike has u-brakes front and rear and while it is obviously not taken care of, it doesn't look like it was ridden hard, just left out in the rain to often.
I mean, a few years ago, that would likely have cost at least 200 bucks new.
So, if you have time, get some stuff to clear the rust off the bike. If at all possible, pull the bike completely apart and regrease all the bearings and everything else. If the frame has been stripped all the way down and you find that the bike doesn't have holes in the frame after clearing the rust off, then put a few coats of spray paint onto the frame to help keep it from rusting in the future.
Put it all back together and keep things running smooth and you should be really happy with it for at least a couple of years. As long as the rust hasn't done any frame damage, it should ride really strong for you as well.
I would consider upgrades down the road like decent wheels and maybe some good 3-piece cranks (wheels first!). But, those are for later.
Have fun!

BMXTRIX, your advice is spot on, except for the paint. Seeing as how the bike is chrome, that may just be surface rust. If so, a little naval jelly is all he'll need, backed up by a good polish. Painting a chrome big is a major chore, and if he's spraying from a can, he'll never have paint that sticks very well.
