Yess isn't operating as a brand name anymore, but Hydrogen BMX is still running out of the same factory in British Columbia and selling a very similar bike.

LOL - BMX is great for impressive-looking trophies. That was just a 3rd and a 4th from our provincial championship weekend, and 4th for the series out of novice & intermediate riders.

And I buy used bikes. Definitely not paying new retail for these things.

53, and just getting back into BMXing. Growing up, I was too poor to be able to afford a reputable BMX like the other neighborhood kids. Mine was a Frankenstein bike with mix-match parts =) Meantime, they were sportin’ badass GTs, Haro’s, Redline’s, Diamond Back’s, and Mongoose’s. My dream bike was a candy apple red Hutch Trickstar. Anyhow, just got a nice BMX to have a little fun — can’t post pics because I’m still a newbie here.

I don’t know if I’ll ever choose not to ride but I’m not even 30 yet so that could change. That said, I’m not even 30 yet and I already feel the age of creaks and groans on the horizon, just sitting too long at work totally wrecks my body.

Out on a fatbike ride today I met a guy wearing a state champ USA BMX patch on his pack. Long story short he is 50-55 age group like me and invited me to their track next summer. Now I'm looking into 24 vs. 26 inch cruisers!

Some thoughts about riding my first BMX bike.....It's a Blast!

When I brought it home (Sep '23) I decided to install a taller seat post/new seat so I could "pedal" the bike while seated. This set up worked "ok" for short distances but I found I prefered pedalling while standing and only sat while coasting.
However, the aftermarket seat (although nicely padded) was uncomfortable. I re-installed the OEM seat/post but it was way too low and the fixed seat angle not ideal for seated cruising. Also, it was almost impossible to get back up to the standing position......at least for this (now) 64yo fart:)
I just received a new seat/post combo from Amazon. The seat may not be BMX inspired but it's comfortable and I like the look. The post is at the lowest position (I probably won't go lower) but there is room to raise it another 3-4".

Also, I found the stopping power of the oem black pads to be lacking right from the get go but swapping for a pair of clear pads changed that.

Looking forward to some better weather to enjoy the bike........

I'm glad you're having fun!

As for me I'm considering racing again (haven't since the 80s!) and I've yet to decide on 20 or 24. It appears that alot of guys do both just to get more time on the track.
I've noticed quite a surge in popularity of retro styled cruisers (on Youtube) but was informed in a different post that those retro bikes aren't like the race bikes of today.
I'll be able to consider the options more clearly when the track opens up again and I can go see for myself what the old guys are up to.

It's really cool to see so many people at an older age still enthused with BMX/bikes of our youth. For me I grew up on my bikes with my friends who all shared the same passion. I swear between 9/10 and 15 it was probably 10 hours on that bike riding from one spot to another to jump or ride trails (those of us lucky enough to have trails near where we lived) practically every single day. I went on in life and did not reconnect with this love for probably 30 years. Had mountain bikes and other typical bikes I would ride for exercise in between but was really just for exercise. But getting my first "BMX" bike again it's cool to reconnect to some of that energy from my youth. One thing that I realize as an aging adult is riding really makes you live in the moment which I think is a good thing for people in general. I wish I would have rekindled this sooner!

So I am 56 now and all the years of punishment I put myself through working construction and I had to retire at 52 due to issues with my spine. I have essentially no discs left. I have a 5 lb. weight limit and I haven't played golf, bowled, snow or water skied, rode my cheap mountain bike, changed a car tire, rode a dirt bike, a snowmobile, or rode in a boat on Lake Michigan. We went about an hour cruise up to a town called Saugatuck and while we were in having dinner and some adult beverages the weather took a dump and it was really choppy. It was killing me. My buddy asked me if I wanted to go slow and have it last a couple hours or go WFO and pay for it but it would be over sooner. I said "hit it brother". I stood between the windshields and he never eased up on the gas until we were back.

It has stadium tires on it but they are all rotted away. There is no way that I could have one of those turn 1 momen

No friends when the gate drops. No prisoners.

I haven't jumped out of the back of a pickup truck in almost 30 years. I takes to long to heal when you get passed 40-45. I used to be leaving for the bar at 10 pm but know that's bedtime. It's pretty sad but I am trying to play guitar after about a. 25 year hiatus. My left hand is not cooperating with the program and I got my right hand into my table saw and lost about 30-35% of my pointer finger and did some permanent nerve damage to my pointer, middle and ring fingers. I have to get picks that have some grip to them because I can't feel the pick in my fingers. Plus carpal tunnel in both hands just to top it off

Duuuuude, you can totally start to feel the age on bmx's. I think your body will tell you when your too old to BMX. Like another person said, standing on the pedals for forever to go anywhere is definitely for the birds, (once you pass the age cap) plus compared to say like your average 10 speed or other variant multi speed bicycle, with a BMX it seems like you are just constantly pedaling to stay moving forward. But on a 10 speed the gears offer so much sustain. You can pedal some and then just Coast for a good distance. It's not so tiring in an old body haha

So many riders seem to have been pushing the mold with how long you can ride. Health has actually been a concern of a lot of pros trying to maintain longevity in their careers. Super cool to see the sport evolve
