Tektro U Brakes

I have a 2000 Schwinn Panther 26" that's set up with U Brakes.

It seems to me that you BMX guys are the experts on U Brakes, so I'm posting here.

Can you help me identify the brakes I have? I know that they're Tektro, but other than that? Also, I'm interested in seeing if there's better brakes to upgrade to, and if you guys could give me any info about that.

Pictures in album attached; thanks in advance...

Bikes: BigBox bikes.

I can’t see if it has canti bosses.

If so, try these?

Yeah, I don't have canti bosses, but good idea.

Ahhh.

never had Ubrakes. Went from side pull to vbrakes so until your reply, I didn’t realize the mounts were opposite of v-brakes.

I think your best bet is probably to overhaul what you got. Install the stickiest brake pads you can. And go with it.

I don’t know if the bridge at the seat stay will take dual pivots? Or if dual pivots will clear your tires?
Or use a canti conversion plate at the seat stay bridge? Just some ideas.

I ran odyssey 1999’s when I was a kid. Pretty good for side pulls, but I think you’ll need a longer brake lever to make up the difference in braking power over Ubrakes or Vbrakes.

That's a u brake under there, the bosses sit above the wheel, versus under the wheel for Canti/Vbrakes. The only other brake caliper that shares mount style with U-brakes are Roller Cam brakes.
