You don't find a sponsor. Sponsors find you.

Um...have you won any contests? If sponsors WANT you, they will FIND you. There are enough poseurs sending them resumes that most of the mail gets thrown out before it's even read.

yeah i won some compos. thats why i figure i'm at a level where i can look. in South Africa, BMX is still growing. in human terms its only a tweenager, so BMXers have to be assertive and make themselves known, cuz here, you have to have drive.

There is a website specifically for people looking to get sponsored. Before you waste your time, and theirs, ask yourself some questions:

Why do I feel I deserve to be sponsored?
What can I offer in return?
What is my level of commitment?

If my shop/company was to sponsor you, what would you expect from us? Money? Completes? Parts? What would we get in return?

Sponsorship is a form of marketing. They're really paying you to be a spokesperson for their product/brand/company. It's not just free money and gear.

It's not *that* hard to score 'pro deals' if you've got a bit of a resume. I never have to pay retail for any of my snowboard gear, for example.

Slackers, all of you. Now I've got to wade through a pile of old magazines to find the article and website.

Go to sponserhouse.com. It costs a little bit of money a year to sign up for the site, but you make a resume on sponserhouse and they send it out to all these different companies. I think it says somewhere on the site that if you dont get at least one sponser off of sponserhouse they will give you your money back.

You've made a fine case for my argument that spelling is important. This may work better

For those of you lucky enough to be able to stream video. JMC probably doesn't have high speed internet, though. From what I hear from my bud in South Africa they only have one provider who charges $80 a month for 512k DSL.
