40h rims?

can any bike shop order them or only haro supported ones. I want to get a black 40h alex supra e lite and a black 36h alex supra e lite. i also want to get black spokes. I want to black my bike out, and yes i want black rims, i dont use breaks.

Prozakk 03-12-06 11:25 AM

For future reference: brakes.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-12-06 12:44 PM

my bike came with brakes and i cut them off, almost a yr later a bought ody evolvers, monolever, and linear cable. used the brakes for a while and then i cut them back off becuase i dont like them. so dont give me that future reference BS tellin me how to ride MY bike, its my bike and set to MY preferences. i am going to ride my bike the way i prefer to ride it.

You spelled it "breaks". Hence his reply.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-12-06 12:58 PM

oh, i thought he was telling me to use brakes

Best thread in a long time. I'm wondering why you didn't just unbolt your brakes or breaks instead of cutting them off.

Last time I checked it was only the haro rims that were available. Your best bet is to suck it up and buy a new wheel, 48 or 36h

If he has SS-mounted brakes, it's probably for weight and appearance; if he has CS-mounts it's because (in addition to the aforementioned reasons) if you do rollbacks, your pantleg will get caught on the mount, and tear them to shreads and/or flip you onto your back.

Brian 03-13-06 11:02 AM

But he says he mounted some new ones later.

CMcMahon 03-13-06 02:10 PM

He probably saved the mounts and had them brazed back on later. That's probably what I'll be doing with my frame as soon as I finish stripping the paint of it (although I might actually get the mounts brazed onto my forks as early as next week), before taking it to the powdercoater to get cleared.

sorry for all the confusion, verybad wording on my part, i was being lazy and didnt fully explain my self. i cut the cable and removed the brakes. i would like to cut the mounts but my dad will have a fit and i dont feel like hearing it. my brake mounts are ss and my pants still get hung up on them all the time.

brakes can do alot lot more than slow you down
brakes can help you in the air
stop you from over rotating on a manual
I ride at all times with one finger sitting on the brake lever

the only type of brakes thta suck are front brakes and gyro brakes.

CMcMahon 03-13-06 08:18 PM

We all know what brakes can help you doing. And if you set it up properly, a gyro will work just as well as a straight cable. And front brakes hardly suck.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-13-06 08:30 PM

You dont need brakes.
Ive jumped my bike plenty of times and I've never fallen due to the lack of brakes. You can use your body to reposition your bike in the air via leaning, tucking, and/or use of your arms.

As for manuals, I can out manual everyone i know, and they all run straight cable brake systems. If you know how to ride a manual you tend not to loop out. Weight shifting, pumping, and good technique also lets you do keep a manual from looping out.

i used to ride brakeless for a good year or two and i think it makes me more 'secure' on my bike. i recently got some brakes and all they do is annoy me.
