It's nice that you "have known how to work on bikes since before most current BMX companies were in existence," but that doesn't change the fact that you're going to be hard-pressed to find any explanation for how that bolt (which has minimal pressure on it under normal riding conditions) could possibly snap in half like that, aside from being over-tightened.

And your spring got warped. Big deal. You're going to go out and spend however much cash you plan on spending to get new brakes, instead of simply calling up or emailing Chris or Nuno at Odyssey to have them send you a (most likely) free replacement.

And, yeah, I'm sure my time will come. In the meantime, keep on rocking out to Slipknot and Pantera, hypocrite.

1) Yeah, I shouldn't have forced a failing brake's bolt. I couldn't keep the Ody's tight on the black spring side. I spend an undue amount of retightening the spring bolts. Annoying as hell.

The spring did fail under normal conditions, meaning it suddenly just lost all of it's tension.

The duct tape, gum, wire, etc is plain to see.

Maybe you had some incompatability problems, i.e. the post was just a tad too short. Did you tighten the cap down without the spring? that'll normally tell you how freely the arm is moving on the post, if the arm is stiff it's common for people to up the spring tension, then you have to tighten the bolt further, which can mushroom the post which makes the arm stiffer etc.

If you're going to buy a new brake you should be aware that the fly limits the amount you can adjust the pads by, as the slot is a fair bit shorter than the evolver one.

don't forget it shouldn't take as much force to stop a 20" wheel as a 26" wheel because of less leverage. therefore, i am not too worried about flex of a v-brake.

My front brakes were a post/brake combo issue...the rear...all brake.

They'd have to respond for that to work.

Most of my parts are from a company not responding to e-mails...oh so comforting!

They wanted me to ship the bad springs, with no guarantee of replacement. At nearly the cost of the rebuild kit, why would I?

Next payday I'm getting Revenge brakes.

Got the Revenge brakes in & on my bike. WOW!!! :eek: :D So much smoother. The dual sealed bearings are vastly superior over the metal to metal contact of other u-brakes.

Can't wait to get a pair for the front...

Tell me what you think a month or two from now, becuase ill be getting new brakes and those are definatley on my list since my new frame will have seatstay brakes, i wont have to worry about stack height.

I've been working 60+ hours a week & have school to deal with lately. I go back to a normal (40) hours next week & have finals the next 2 weeks. After that I'll be riding the heck out of it! Time to play...yeah!

What little I've ridden it, I noticed the lack of friction. The brakes work so smooth & the springs work 1000% better than the Ody's ever did. With the Ody's (and all other non-bearing brakes) any imperfections in the mounts will cause severe hinderence of the function. The Revenge eliminates that issue completely. Sure $70 is alot, but after the 1st time I pulled the lever, I knew it was worth the wait & $$$. Every penny, every second waited.

The sound good. Haha.
