My Evolvers started losing tension on one of the arms. The bolt that goes into the frame brake mount broke, & revealing a warped spring. It was the larger spring (soft ones feel too mushy to me).

Hopefully I can get a screw extractor to get the remainder of the brake's bolt out, thus not RUINING my new frame. Any brand of screw extractors preferred?

Um, i dont know about screw extractors, but i do know that if and when you get the bolt off and out, you can purchase new springs from Empire and other mailorders...

I didn't know EZ out was an actual brand. I do know that if you go to Sears they have several types of extractors (depending on the application) in the Craftsmen brand that are top quality.

I'm pretty positive that it's the brand name; I don't rememebr seeing Craftsman or any other company name stamped on them the last time I went to Home Depot.

You do realize that the bolt only needs to lock off the spring cap, pinkie finger tight should be enough and you shouldn't have problems with them snapping.

Thats what i was saying to myself when i was reading this, but apparently your wrong...

It wouldn't hold the cap in place just pinkie tight. It would just back off, losing the springs tension.

I forsee Revenge Industries brakes' in my near future.

If your going to dish out that kind of money for brakes, get Fly brakes.
There both very good though, and dont underestimate your Odyssey's there nice too, i should have gotten Ody's instead of my shody Primo's...

I think Odyssey should send me new stuff due to it being so new & not working right in the 1st place. The front Ody brake works almost too good...

I mentioned Revenge due to it's having (sealed) bearings. I figure I wouldn't have to worry with the same not working right design as the Ody (@#$^#$^* non-working spring cap/failed spring).

I hope I can get the remainder of the bolt out of my frame's brake mount!

Not a spare...it comes with soft & heavy springs. I used the soft springs 1st & it felt way too mushy. It was the heavy spring that lost it's shape & caused this whole ordeal!

you are correct. just like everyone refers to hook and loop fasteners as velcro.

For the record craftsman arent top quality. Snap on is.

i think i found them at s&m website. i just got mine, but now i am thinking of sending them back and using avid ultimate brakes

oh i don't know....i kind of like the idea of using v-brakes rather than u-brakes if it doesn't turn into a big ordeal.

V brakes are more prone to flexing than u brakes due to their longer arms...

yeah but the leverage is totally different. i don't know much or care for rim brakes. but these seem like the best.

I like rim brakes if they don't have flaws (****ing **** Ody springs/spring caps).

I find it funny that you're complaining about the Odyssey springs and caps, when more likely than not, it's your own goddamn fault for overtensioning the bolt in the first place. I've never, ever, heard of that happening to anyone else, with Evolvers or any other brakes, for that matter.

I have heard of slipping caps.

It took quite of bit of time to make my fronts quit slipping.
