This winter we set up a few kickers in the yard, and after we got out of the jacuzzi we would launch them on our bikes then jump back in. It was pretty damned fun.

You are one dumb man to sit around in the snow in a bathing suit.

mude 03-13-07 06:42 PM

Thanks. Getting up to the roof where I took those shots was tough as hell. Had to take an AC out of a top story window and climb out.

KinetikBiker 03-15-07 11:23 AM

Awesome photos.

I think I like the last photo best--I love the look of classic old buildings, as exemplified by the vases with flames thing. I also like the green/blue balance of the lighting. What building is this, kjohnnytarr?

East Hill

kjohnnytarr 03-15-07 11:48 AM

It's an old building called the Tiger Hotel, built in the 20s. It saw a lot of use when businessmen traveled right into downtown Columbia MO by train, but fell out of favor when highways and roadside hotels became the travel norm.

Today, it's still the tallest building in downtown Columbia, and it's in use too. Most of the floors are rented out to the rich and old, the penthouse has offices, and the lower levels have space for small gatherings and a community theater.

It's fun to explore around inside, too, although not as pretty as the roof of course:

Is the Otis elevator motor really still a working motor, or is it on display? If you aren't giving away secret information, are you doing part of the renovation?

The Otis winch operates the freight elevator, the shaft of which is in the other picture.

I'm not part of the renovation, just sneaky :D

Great photos

I was in Missouri during tornado season many years ago. When one came through at about 2 AM, I was wide awake with the 90mm lens on my RB67 pressed against the hotel window. Awesome lightning shots. All I need is a medium format transparency scanner...

mude 03-15-07 07:00 PM

i have 4 of those and a xs3452

MadMan2k 03-15-07 07:07 PM

I decided I need a Hasselblad system now.

Well, it's either that or that Kawasaki 250CC motorcycle that would cost the same as the body, 4 lenses, and a scanner.

I'd go with the Kawasaki. Def.

How old school. Everyone knows the xs3482 is the hot ticket now.

MadMan2k 03-15-07 08:11 PM

Heh.. It would be fun to have, but I don't know. Won't be making any money from any form of transportation, where I could with a camera.

This is the one I was looking at
http://kawasaki.com/Products/Detail.aspx?id=200

Oh well, it's going to be a while before I can afford either, so I have time to decide. I think large format might be too cumbersome for me, and even an RB/RZ setup might... I enjoyed very much throwing my Leica over one shoulder, my tripod in its bag over the other, and my second lens in my shirt pocket and going for a ride to shoot some landscapes last week. Didn't weigh me down much, but I can go a little heavier if I'm hiking.
