Hey guys I have a Haro R2 and it's a good ride. I've had it for a little over a year and it's getting pretty beat. It's also a bit heavier then I'd like it to be.

I want to buy a new bike for this summer. I looked at hoffman, haro, and other brands, but can't decide what would work best. I ride BMX dirt tracks/jumps. What does everyone think is good bike for a decent price. (200-400$)

About a track. I have 5-6acres but can only use 1-2 for a track. I don't want a super long track, and It will prob. end up being a small stepdown(less then 10') into a double with 2 lines. One will be a longer launch(atleast 20') and one will be real peaked(about 12'). I'm not exactly sure if this is what I should do or not? How tall/long are normal dirt jumps? There is only 1 dirt track around(other then my friends house and here) and it's longest jump is only about 10' long and 4' high. Me and one of my friends both plan on trying backflips again this year after some bad crashes trying last year, so how tall/long is a good backflip jump?

I see a lot of stupidity. You have 5-6 acres of land, which means you have a fairly decent amount of money, and you don't want to spend a lot of money on a race bike and intend to do backflips on it. If you get a race bike, no matter how much you spend on it, you don't want to do backflips on it because backflips on a race bike = suicide

spend some money, get a good race bike for racing, and get a good freestyle bike for backflips... or just get a decent freestyle bike and race it too.

I do not plan on racing or buying a racing bike. Sorry for the confusion, but I plan to build a freestyle bmx dirt track. And having land means nothing when it's my parents... I'm still a broke teenager. haha

Anyone reccommend any good freestyle bikes?

Whatever Fit, DK or Eastern that's in that price range should be great. The Specialized bikes are pretty good too, mine's held up well.

No, broken, Eastern is fine. Just because they make a frame that pushes the envelope, that doesn't mean they suck.

Haha. I just don't like Eastern because I've heard bad things about them (especially their hubs). I wouldn't buy an Eastern complete because the back hub like self-destructs.

Haven't seen any probs with eastern hubs around here. Their completes are really nice for the prices.

Steer away from anything that is not chromoly.

those are not 100% 4130, but would they hold up well?

The 2 easterns are decent but I'd still avoid them. Just go for a 6 pack, you wouldn't regret it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be looking for a new bike for another month or so since there's still a foot or 2 of snow in my yard and I don't plan to be riding until atleast april.

Anyone have takeoff/landing specs for some good dirt jumps?

I will. I prob. won't rent one until early summer though, that's when my dad always gets one for yardwork and other things around the house. I already have nice sized jumps, but they were for my pitbike so the faces aren't steep as they need to be for bmx. I think as soon as the snow is gone me and a few of my friends will fix 2 of the jumps in a day and 1 will be about 6' tall and 15' long, and the other will be around 4' tall and 12' long. Sound like a good size?

I'm not sure about the jumps. I would also reccomend the DK 6 Pack....

His profile says he's from PA and unless he's close to one of the big citys...5-6 acres isn't expensive. It's probly just as much as a house with half an acre where you and i would live. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Backflips on a race bike = Todd Lyons.

Basically in some parts of PA land is real low price, but I live right off the blvd. I'm not sure how much it was or nething though haha... My friend lives about 10 miles from me by farms and stuff and land out there is real cheap.

Guys, I do like the DK 6 Pack, and it seems pretty nice for the price. Does it not have a gyro? Also how would I do barspins/tailwhips if it doesn't? Just wondering how heavy a dirt bmx bike should be?

You can do barspins and tailwhips without a gyro. There are special kinda of straight cables called 'Linear cables' that have special housing that allows it to be kinked and twisted without locking up your brakes. Your 6 pack will probly come with a regular cable which will be fine for you starting out. Once that breaks or when and if your ready for barspins/tailwhips you can get a linear cable from your local shop or favorite mailorder. Odyssey makes a great linear cable. And all of them are under $10ish.

EDIT: Straight cables are also easier to set up then gyros and cheaper. A tad lighter too.

Felt bikes that are full chromo aren't bad, but I would still go with the DK Six Pack.
