Im New, HELP.

Aright so I know something like this has been posted before, but I haven't found my exact question yet in any of my searches, so here it is. I'm 15, pretty good on a bike, though I don't have much experience in bmx and tricks, I have a really heavy 5 or 6 year old Free Agent Airstrike, and seeing all these bikers at the local skatepark, its got me REALLY wanting to get good at tricks and stuff, but I feel like I'm being held back by the weight of my bike, I can bunny hop like, half a foot lol, and when you land a jump or something, you hear the frame go *CLINK* even on a small jump. Everyone I know, and I agree, says that my bike's REALLY heavy, and I know my bike's supposed to be a "freestyle" bike, but I've never seen one this heavy, anyways I haven't weighed it (Cause I don't know how to, I don't have any scales big enough), but so I'm wondering if it really is heavy for a bmx bike, since I've heard that bmx bikes are supposed to be sorta heavy steel so its durable, but I'm not sure if I need a bike THAT heavy, anyone know how heavy a 2002ish FA Airstrike weighs? And if it is heavier than normal, what kind of bmx bike would you recommend for doing some bmxing, and just street riding too thats nice and light, but not like crappy you know(in a price range of about $100-$500)?:o

i beleive the intregal bel-air is in your range. i dont feel like looking it up though

Spike002 03-29-07 06:24 PM

Yah I know what that is, one of my friends had it, but he moved away right after he got it, so I never really got a chance to try it out, really recommend it?

gnr rocker 03-29-07 06:33 PM

id get it. perfect components

FitRider 921 03-29-07 06:39 PM

He can't afford the newer Bel-Air with that amount of cash... fit team bikes are decent

mude 03-29-07 06:47 PM

ride waht you have till it breaks

and stop complaining about weight

Fed3ral 03-29-07 08:53 PM

If you REALLY want to weight it, get a normal scale and weigh yourself. Then hold onto the bike and get back on. Then, if you can, subtract the two.

Id go with a DK 4pack

FitRider 921 03-29-07 09:07 PM

Out of those three bikes you'd go with the Four Pack? Just... why?

A little something called his uhhh Price Range?

FitRider 921 03-29-07 09:12 PM

It's just the lowest priced out of those three.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-29-07 09:12 PM

4 pack - $469
Bel Air - $679
Fit - $644 (for a flow)

exactly, and his max price is 500$. If a bike cost more than that it is out of the picture.

FitRider 921 03-29-07 09:14 PM

He said "about" that much. Stolen Heater.

I cant say anything about stolen. I've never actually seen one in person.

FitRider 921 03-29-07 09:17 PM

Stolen makes pretty good completes... and the WTP completes are supposed to be pretty good as well.

My friend rides a WTP Daredevil and its a tank, but it hold up well.
My other friend got a fairly expensive felt complete, and it broke like no other.

Haha omg I'm so stupid I didn't think of that, okay well I just weighed it.... haha... it weighs 38lb.... that is a bit heavy isn't it?

I'm looking at those right now, and I'm seriously considering one, they look really nice, and it's exactly in my prefered price range, and its almost 10 pounds lighter than my bike.

photothug123 03-29-07 09:38 PM

yeh
u want something about 32 and under
and yes i understand the weight thing can piss u off. but i dont really recomend u getting a super nice bike before u can do tricks. go to your park. learn some stuff. then get a bike that can help u progress with. eastern jane might work great for u. or one of the fit flows.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-29-07 09:43 PM

The fit flows are out of his price range by nearly $150. AS for eastern, I would never ride a bike from a company that would cut holes through a frame, then sell it to thier customers to use. The DK is not a Pro level bike, but it is far better than a entry level bike. The 6 pack is a great starter bike and the four pack is better than that so he will be fine.

Spike002 03-29-07 09:47 PM

Yah thats what I was thinking, I know I should learn some stuff first, and all the bikes I'm looking at between $250 and $450 are 32 at the highest. And just a quick question, how do the 6 and 8 pack compare to the 4?

EDIT: Oh nvm lol, ic. And yah, I'm looking for something just above entry.

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-29-07 09:49 PM

8 pack is pretty shi**y.
6 pack is on of the most recomended starter bikes
4 pack is better than the 6 pack

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-29-07 09:50 PM

you would be fine on a 6 pack, but you get what you pay for. A 6 pack might be better for now, but you would probably have to replace less stuff further down the road on a four pack.

Spike002 03-29-07 09:52 PM

Aright kool, well I think I got this all figured out now, thx for all the help guys. Just in case I come across some other brand later that I think looks better or the price is better, what other brands are recommended and not recommended as far as dependibiliy and stuff?

I_Suck_At_BMX 03-29-07 09:55 PM

Dk, Fit, Integral, Eastern (I dont care for them but I guess I dont really have any solid reasons not too), WeThePeople, and it was mentioned that Stolen is good, but I have never had any experince with them.

Spike002 03-29-07 10:12 PM

Aright, that should be enough info for me to choose a new bike now, thx.

You get what you pay for buddy.

I rode my friends Fit Flow street (the brakeless one) and it felt so solid right out of the box 100% stock.

Well ok i lied, he put an XLT stem on it, but still, they are hella dialed.
