I still see discs, big tyres and suspension.

And I don't have a problem with mountain biking, hell, I race DH and have more in MTB's then I ever had in BMX.

But I hate them in the parks trying to snake us, giving us lip for 'not having real bikes' and generally acting like they're better. It's the pinkbikers that piss me off.

No it didn't. What a foolish statement.

Good eye. It's unfortunate that my point still eludes you.

BMX had started on a downswing well before mountain bikes became popular, if that's what you're implying. Now BMX is big again. Skating has followed the same pattern. So has DH MTB racing, for that matter. For whatever reason, the popularity of those sports runs in cycles. It doesn't mean any of them killed each other, or that any of them were ever dead.

jonly 08-17-07 05:05 PM

BMX as a sport was downsizing because of the "freestyle" craze. When mountain bikes came out it pretty much drove it into the ground. the local bike shops dropped their bmx lines in favor of mtbs and everyone I knew dumped their 20 inchers.

and tbqh, I don't care for the mtb movement because when I think of mtbs, I think of them on top of suvs, stopping at starbucks with eddie bauer bags flying out of the back. Sorry.

You and wtp both seem to share the notion that prejudging someone based upon the type of bike they ride makes sense - and it doesn't. If there were no such thing as mtb's, he would still have freds snaking lines at the park. If there were no such thing as Starbucks, poughzeurs would find somewhere else to cruise. And if they stopped making girl's jeans and t-shirts, BMXers would still wear clothes.

jonly 08-17-07 05:33 PM

I'm not prejudging anything.
When I see mountain bikes around town they are on the top of suvs sitting at starbucks. Eddie bauer bags are optional.
Now I think that mountainbikers are a little sensitive as well.

fuzzbox 08-17-07 05:54 PM

poughzeurs? I believe it's posers. And the people who wear girl's jeans and tshirts are skaters. Mtbs at a skatepark is the most ridiculous thing I've heard.

I am well known for my emotional instability here at bikeforums. In fact I am crying right now.

I really like the way you use the collective "we" to represent the opinion of BMXers when only two weeks ago, you'd been out of the sport for over eighteen years.

There are skaters who feel the same way about twenties.

What are your thoughts on 24's for street/park riding?

On a bmx or mtb?

Exactly.

No, not exactly. If it's on a bmx that's pretty much the most pointless unless your old and ride to the store.

I'm sorry but every MTB rider I've seen at the park has been a total asshat with no style whatsoever. They snake lines, act rude as hell, hack, and don't respect the basic rules of the park. Hell, DYLAN TREMBLAY! Would not leave our bowl, insisting that 'us bmx riders' should go find somewhere else to ride. He rode for a solid 35 minutes in our bowl, just pumping around acting like the king supreme hippy he is.

Also, I guess board shorts and an Azonic shovel t-shirt with either a ball cap or a fedora aren't real clothes then

I have no problem with MTB riders, hell, if I didn't snap my Jamis a few days ago I would be riding the hills more. I just have a problem with pinkbikers and people who snake me at the park.

They try to mimic our style, and fall short a few feet away from crappy. Only things that have left me floored at what a 24" can do was one fellow who was doing brakeless g-turns and other crazy spins on the pyramid at our park. any time he left the ground he was about as graceful as a brick in the wind.

They're still for goons.

jonly 08-18-07 09:46 AM

I own a 24 and wouldn't take it near a skatepark. That's what the 20s are for.

I have to agree here. If you ride an MTB at a skatepark, you are an idiot and need a life.

You missed my point again there, Panama Jack.

Skateparks are for skateboards, hence the name. Further, I'm willing to bet you have absolutely no idea what kind of 24 I'm referring to.

I've ridden my freeride bike at a skatepark before. Was it the best tool for the job? Far from it. Luckily I hadn't read your foolish post before I went so I was still able to have fun riding with my friends.

And finally, out of curiosity, can someone explain why this bike would be unsuitable for someone to ride park/street (since that's clearly what it was designed for):

fuzzbox 08-18-07 11:41 AM

AHahahahahahahahahaa, what is that ugly thing? And why would you do anything on that?

eightdip 08-18-07 01:11 PM

Get some rigids (sp?) on it

wethepeople 08-18-07 01:25 PM

pegs are completly useless on that bike, the wheels are still too big, fork is for wussies, why have such a small sprocket with a BB that high anyways?

That bike is for puds and ****s.

fuzzbox 08-18-07 01:36 PM

The small sprocket is so when he goes into bowls it doesn't catch it because his tires aren't big enough.

wethepeople 08-18-07 01:37 PM

Nah, mountain bikers just drop to flat in the bowl.

eightdip 08-18-07 01:38 PM

As with everything

clancy98 08-18-07 05:25 PM

BMXers are so friendly
