Taiwan doesn't always maintain the cleanest 4130 chromoly steel out there, so sometimes the tubes on taiwanese bikes break easier than the exact same bike built in the USA.
Don't EVER use sponsored riders as a reference for bike quality. Dave & Ryan both get several bikes a year to rip through. They aren't like you who will buy a bike and expect it to last 2 years even though you ride in the rain and snow. Those guys only ride when it is nice outside and their bikes are garaged or ridden indoors the rest of the time.
Haro makes some real high quality bikes FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. But, quality can definitely be spotty and don't hold a candle to a bike from a company like Standard Bykes or one of the better US manufacturers.
Hoffman bikes saw a pretty significant drop in quality when they switched from US builders to Taiwan builders. But, the price of their bikes went down, and profits went up. All about the companies making $$$.

Yeah you're right I guess, the pros can have their bikes replaced like that whenever they need to. But I'm happy with my bike so I'm fine.

i know what you mean i road a volume for a while but it cracked inside 6months, changed to a us made terrible 1 and so far so good its taken some big slams and is still straight. the other reason i changed to a us made frame was the life time gurante that you dont get with a frame from tiwan. its surprising how many companies pick of the shelf frmaes for tiwan aswell and put big prices on them. a local shop got hold of some frames that were the same as a compaines £450 frame and sold them for £200 and made a good profit. only differance was the sticker....

It's not a dumb idea, if the frame has taken his abuse since 03', then why not put better parts on it? If it's working for him then that is great, and if it ever breaks then he can replace it with something even better if he wants. You don't have to have a three hundred dollar frame to put high quality parts on.

Three hundred dollar frame! All that BMX stuff is cheap, at least in price. Queensrider86, how much did your bike cost?

I could ask why you ride such a cheap bike. But what counts is that you ride, not how much you spend.
