You aren't pulling on a seat post.

What do you think will have more friction, steel on aluminum or steel wrapped in some gooey fibers?

abowler10154 02-25-08 07:25 PM

grip tape would be a last resort i guess. I think i would get a new stem before grip tape.

wethepeople 02-25-08 07:25 PM

Grip tape won't work.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DUMB PEOPLE!

abowler10154 02-25-08 08:04 PM

alright, ill just take it to the bike shop tommorow and tell you if the bars are fixed

live4muzic2 02-25-08 09:00 PM

Pay $50 for a lighter more awesome stem if your **** aint working.

FitRider 921 02-25-08 10:20 PM

The stem he has is just fine. He just needs to get the kinks worked out.

Note the pun.

live4muzic2 02-25-08 10:42 PM

I had to read it 3 times.

:chuckle:

I think it's funny you are calling other people dumb when the duct tape trick works. Friends and I have all done this trick.
So take your bars out and sand the paint off the bars where the stem clamps to them. Make sure to go with the groves so you do not stand them off. Then look at your stem and make sure the groves on the stem are not filled with paint from the bars. If this does not work do the duct tape trick, or cut up a soda can and use it. Do not keep tightening and tightening your bars they will just flatten star pattern or not.

wethepeople 02-26-08 12:33 AM

Wow, you're calling me dumb when you hold critical parts of your bike together with duct tape instead of just tightening it properly? Irony.

I hope your bars slip mid trick and you lose all of your teeth, I'm sure you have good insurance anyways to consider duct taping your bars a good solution to a simple problem.

bmx2478 02-26-08 02:41 AM

Well said, good sir.

abowler10154 02-26-08 06:01 AM

id rather not cut up soda cans to sand down my bike with and hold the bars on with duct tape, as i said, ill just take it to the bike shop tommorow and tell you if the bars are fixed...

Wise choice. Let them show you how to tighten it properly. I wouldn't count on a piece of duct tape to hold my bars in place.

abowler10154 02-26-08 06:50 PM

no luck, the first place tightened it alot more but the bars still moved when i land a bunny hop
the second place, the guy took off the bars, cleaned them and the stem, tightened them in the right pattern very slowly and carefully but the bars still moved. Since i dont have $50 to spend on a new stem, i think im gonna try to contact danscomp and see if they will send me new bars and a stem and i send them my old ones, or see what they can do.
once i get new stuff, im just gonna let the bike place install them so i dont f... them up, lol

also, do you guys think that its the bars and the stem thats defeacted? or just the stem

fuzzbox 02-26-08 07:36 PM

Stem.

live4muzic2 02-26-08 09:37 PM

Stizzem.

abowler10154 03-06-08 06:27 PM

Well, i just recieved a new stem and bars from kink no problem. I brought it to a bike shop to install it because i don't want to mess it up. I tried it out and the bars still moved!!! They said to just leave it there and they will try to fix it, (remove the paint, ect...) Im disappointed. If it still moves, im gonna have to call up kink and tell them i need a new stem but not the same one that they use with the kink roc. No one in this whole forum has a kink roc...?

fuzzbox 03-06-08 08:23 PM

If it just moves a slight bit bring an allen wrench when you ride.

abowler10154 03-06-08 09:09 PM

no, it moves alot, ill get it al straightened out hopefully

live4muzic2 03-06-08 09:37 PM

Tell Kink to send you a relief.

Maybe the bars are too small for the stem or something. That would be really weird for a complete bike though.

abowler10154 03-09-08 11:58 AM

Well, i just got the bike back from the bike store. The guy removed the paint on the bars and "so far" they dont move anymore. I'll bring an allen key for a while when i ride until i'm sure they dont move anymore. =}

chicagotypewrit 03-18-08 06:06 PM

what stem is on your bike and try taking the paint off the knurling on the handlebars(the part of the bars that the stem clamps too) that should help. i have also before put groves in my stem with a knife and i have never had my bars move on me

chicagotypewrit 03-18-08 06:10 PM

didnt know this thread was 3 pages long so i hope your bars dont move anymore

abowler10154 03-18-08 06:26 PM

Yeah, the guy at the bike store removed the paint on the bars where they clamp to the stem, and i've had people ride on the handlebars and they dont move. So if they do move, i will put cuts into the stem like you said. (i've heard someone who has a kink roc, had the same handlebar problem and put cuts into the stem and they never moved on him again. Thanks for the reply anyway.
Did you make the cuts deep? Or just enough to take the paint off? And were they diagonally or horizontall?

chicagotypewrit 03-18-08 06:34 PM

horizontal and no they werent deep at all. just do as much as you think you need but dont go crazy its just so the knurling on the bars have something to bite into. and no problem i like tryin to help out the younger crowd in bmx

thanks alot gonna try that tommorow. I might as well ask this also. The brakes dont sound right, not squeaky, but like really loud and bad...

check the pads for grit, debris, etc.

abowler10154 03-19-08 04:04 AM

brakes are fine now, just need to tighten them

chicagotypewrit 03-19-08 02:53 PM

loud brakes are awesome you piss everyone off with them

wethepeople 03-19-08 04:46 PM

Including yourself.

Not to mention they make your bike appear to be complete ****.
