I forgot what its called, but its like sealed bearings or something. I looked this up at one time and it said that it had unsealed and I know sealed is for dirt and unsealed is for street, but can you ride unsealed in dirt with out having to worry to much? just clean them up afterward or something? Sorry for the bad question, thanks.

P.S. Also how do you clean and regrease these bearings every couple of months? just a general overview please.

Sealed or unsealed bearings. You can use either, unsealed will accept more dirt and break faster.

as a very simple, general rule, always use sealed bearings. always. they roll smoother and last longer.

I was thinking about buying the DK Cleveland and I was sure it had unsealed bearing, can someone confirm that?

If so, then how much would it cost to replace them?

it depends what size the BB is. the bigger the BB, the more the bearings will cost.

unsealed is fine if you maintain your bike, neither rolles smoother nor faster is you maintain them. Sealed is just more maintenence free

I've always wondered if bike sealed bearings will turn to poo when water gets in contact with it like skateboard bearings. I've never tried and am avoiding it.

if the bb has unsealed bearings, it's probably an American bb. you can run sealed bearings in it, but honestly, i'd recommend just maintaining the stock ones. depending on how much you ride, anywhere from every 2 weeks to 2 months it's good to clean all the grease off them and re-pack them with fresh lube. a hint that saved me a lot of headaches is to put down an old towel on the table/floor where you're working. that way if one of the ball bearings falls out of the cage, it won't roll away and get lost.

also, sealed bearings have lots of advantages. they can be tightened so that there is no free play, yet they still roll to perfection. unsealed bearings take the load right on the balls, the tighter you run them, the less they spin. unless you constantly ride in water, rust shouldn't be a big problem on sealed bearings. they do turn to poo tho if they get soaked and set for a long time.
