On my old BMX, I had this awesome 40 toothed Fusion chainring on it:





I brought the bike to a near by bike shop to have a busted crank replaced. It was returned to me with a hole drilled into this chainring (no, it didn't have one drilled into already), and a bolt went through it to my pedal so that I could use the bike. I got pissed off and made them replace it. They couldn't find one like it (I doubt they even searched for one and just used one that was just lying around the store), so they replaced it with a PK Ripper style one that had a giant Haro logo on it (my bike was Haro, so it kinda fit). They gave me the Fusion chainring that they took off my bike, and I have kept it around.

That was the story behind the smaller hole in the chainring.

So my question is this: where can I buy this chainring? I have tried Googling "Fusion chainring", and haven't found this model.

If you know the name of this 40 toothed Fusion chainring, please tell me. Thanks!




***EDIT*** I forgot to ask if this chainring would be strong enough to use in a double reduction design on a fixie.

Lol you are on crack. the hole was always there thats the sprocket bolt hole for your crank arm. That sprocket is a piece of junk, belongs back in the 90's.

Wow. No, that hole WASN'T there. I never had that hole there before. Besides: you can see how crappy it was drilled out. Trust me...it wasn't there. What makes it a piece of crap?

Fusion was just a "house" brand name that Haro used for the generic parts that they put on their complete bikes, Google Haro Fusion and you will get hit on a variety of things that were branded that way. As with most house brand stuff, it was non-spectacular and you would not see much of it available as after market pieces. I did see one Haro Fusion Sprocket that looked pretty cool on an old school race bike last year, it was a two piece design with the center in an anodized blue colour, nothing like the one you have.

While you may have an attachment to that sprocket, it looks like a pretty run of the mill item that could easily be replaced with something new for 25 bucks.

It is possible that this was on a bike with one piece cranks and the pin on the drive side crank just butted up against one of the cut outs so there wasn't a hole. I have seen that on childrens bikes in the past, if that was what you had then the bike shop was doing you a favour. That design would mean that the sprocket would be free to slip backward if you let the bike roll back at all. Drilling a hole that would actually secure the pin of a one piece crank in both directions or allow the sprocket to be secured to a 3 piece crankarm would actually be an upgrade of sorts, not something to be "pissed" about.

Well, I had the bike for 7 years (it was a 2002 Haro Backtrail x24), and sold it a few months ago. It had a 3 piece crank. I rode that bike nearly every day.

yea that tiny hole is for the sprocket bolt on the crank arm. and if you still think otherwise, then im sorry to say that you're sorta dumb.

I know what it is and what it is used for. I am trying to tell everybody that the hole wasn't there before I brought the bike in to the shop. Besides...it appears to have been drilled out by a dremel, because it is lopsided and the edges are chopped up. I know that they drilled it themselves.

Now that we have that cleared up (hopefully), then I would like to ask this: are these still manufactured by Haro? Do you think I could contact them to see if they have any?

Dude you don't get it. That hole HAS to be there. How else does your crank arm bolt to your sprocket? Like seriously are you kidding me? That sprocket is a stock piece of crap they put on cheap completes. They didn't drill that hole.

Would you like a close up of the hole so that you can see how crappy it was drilled which obviously shows that it wasn't there before?

you are sooooooooooooooooo stupid. every sprocket has that little hole in it. it wasnt there after you took it to the shop, its been there since it was made.

Well, my 3 piece crank looked exactly like this one, and the crank arms slid onto each side of it and were tightened down onto the crank shaft via an allen headed bolt. I forget how the chainring was attached, but that is how it was setup until the lazy asses at the bike shop decided to keep the broken crank in there and just drill a hole in the chainring and put a bolt through it so that I could pedal it.

you know whats cool? i had those cranks too...they came stock on my bike when i bought it. and ya know what else? THEY HAVE A BOLT THAT THREADS INTO THE DRIVE SIDE ARM. thats how they work.

and the edge of the hole is that way from stress on the sprocket from you pedaling. there are signs of stress because its a peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeice oooooooooooooooooooffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

I actually have seen that bike before. And those marks are from the sprocket bolt resting against the inside of the SPROCKET BOLT HOLE. the marks are from the threads of the bolt, clearly NOT a drill bit you tool. If it was drilled out, then tell me why the entire hole is not bare metal and you can see the black anodizing on the unmarked side of the hole from when they painted the sprocket, after the hole was made?

The entire hole IS bare metal. The black ano is there because the thing that was rubbing against it was tapering inward, meaning that it had somewhat of a lip on it. That is why there is still ano between the hole and the circle.

This is the best picture that I have (I cannot take any more because A) They put the new/different sprocket on it and used a bolt; and B) I sold the bike a few months ago.

ummmm you're still dumb. just throwin that out there. all 3-pc cranks use a bolt to keep em connected to the sprocket.

I am just going off of what I had on my bike.

meaning 3-pc cranks that had a bolt in them...meaning that the hole in your sprocket was there when you got the bike, meaning that you look reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally dumb right now.
