Are Suzue Hubs any good? (I doubt that anybody here has heard of them)

In the 80s and early 90s Suzue hubs were used quite a bit on entry and mid level bikes. I have had a couple of sets and put many miles on them with no problems at all.

As long as they are rolling on cartridge bearings it doesn't matter what the name is on the hub if the price is right.

The Suzue hub, front version still available at www.flatlandfuel.com, is the only front hub I have used for over 14 years. I am on my second one (in 14 years!) and it is still working perfectly. The old one just started to get weathered, but was working perfectly when I retired it.

Make sure to get the sealed bearing version of the hub - it will last you for YEARS.

OH: The axles that come with the hub suck, suck, suck! Both Standard Industries and Kink make replacement axles for those hubs that are 10 times stronger than the stock axles (no kidding). I used to break axles once every month and when I switched to a Standard axle, I never replaced my axle again. That may sound like a joke, but it isn't. I was on tour, doing 3+ shows a day, and I would snap my axle no less than once a month. I still have my ORIGINAL Standard axle in that hub and it was the axle that I rode for the next 7 years without touching it once.

They are the gold standard in axles and mate perfectly with Suzue hubs.

These hubs on eBay are awesome:
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Any high flange, sealed suzue hub is very, very good.

The axle is the only thing that sucks and it is easily replaceable with a high quality axle.

NOTE: Almost NO stock axle is good. Axles cost money and to keep prices down manufacturers make cheap axles. So, a good after market axle is really what matters. If you can't get a good aftermarket axle, then odds are you will spend a ton more on cheap replacement axles all the time.

Oh: And for the price, these will last you for years:
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...111715321&rd=1

NOTE: Those are not down drive compatible, so no freewheels under 16t will work.

No, there are many (MANY!) riders that don't support Dans Competition because the original owner (Dan) doesn't actually ride BMX. Actually, Dans got bought from the owner (Dan) and now it doesn't matter if Dan rides or not, because he has no ownership of Dans Competition.

Of course, I support any rider owned shop that has reasonable prices and doesn't jack me around because they are incompetent. Which mostly means that I shop at www.flatlandfuel.com only. Dans has never screwed me over on an order and when the two times they have been wrong, I just sent stuff back.

I ride flatland so Dans doesn't usually have what I need. If flatlandfuel.com doesn't have what I need, or if Dans has a really good sale, then you better believe I shop from them. Dans has saved my ass several times when other shops have not been able to come through for me.

Not in two years. They lie about product weights in their catalog, they've been shady with several companies over the years (most notably Terrible One), their employees can't build wheels for sh1t, they've been very shady with me (it took me three months to recieve a stem, after calling them about it every week, and they never sent me the ten dollar check that I was supposed to get for buying a cheaper stem in the end because they never did get the one I originally wanted in stock), and they're owned by a large corporation that not only has no real interest in BMX, but also happens to own the CCS skateboard mailorder.

Considering the fact that Albes, Empire, Staff, and Flatland Fuel all have the same prices as Dan's, they all have better customer service than Dan's, they generally send you a tracking number via email once your order is shipped, and they're all rider-owned, why would you ever want to support Dan's?

Definately.. Dan's isn't the only place to buy bike parts.. It's funny some one could be so shocked that some one wouldn't shop from them.. For some strange reason Dan's is like a bad word at Woodward.. its the cool thing to hate it there... I buy alot of stuff from Staff. they are a really great place and are really close. I do use Dan's ocasionally but they are definately shady.. I also havent had to buy a bike part in a very long time.. so I havent used any distributer in a while.

I have a Suzue "Phat Jack" (48 hole, 14mm) on the front. I'm the third person to have the thing in like six years, and I haven't had a single complaint from it. When I first had it, the thing had a flat 14mm axle. Those are horrible, as they strip more than Brittany Spears. Round = more better. Suzue = good.
