i was practicing this trick today. to do this trick i put most of my weight towards the front of the bike, crouch down, spring up and slightly jump of the pedals.

i found i can get the back wheel off the ground by about an inch or so. any clues on how to get this higher? i find that my back tire (at least seems) to come off the ground before my front.

There is no such thing as a j-hop. I think that I've said this on this board at least three times in as many weeks.

That guide is spot on, I wrote a quick summary the other day on another post, that is similar but that's far more detailed, good work
will be trying rock walks tomorrow, can kinda of do em already but that makes a lot more sense on how to do them.

Rice to me sounds like like you need to pull up on the bars to get 6 inches or so off the deck and then kinda lean forward almost pushing into the pedals to grip them and take the back up with you.....and practice..

best solution, video it and put in here so we can see maybe ? just a thought....

Lift your front wheel up and as quickly as you can say "sass," lift up your back wheel.. forget all this leaning forward jiberish.. just keep trying.. this isnt like a barspin.. you really cant be taught how to do it.. just keep trying over and over and over.. you'll do a small one at first, and then they will get higher and higher.. and then you'll be able to control how high they are and you'll be the bunny hop master.. so just keep trying.

what do they mean when they say push down on the pedals and handlebars and then pull up smoothly? (to bunnyhop)

how do u "pull up" on the pedals

Your pedals should be grippy enough that when you put pressure on them your feet stick. So you point your tows slightly downward so after you extend your legs and your front wheel is off the ground you can put pressure on the pedals and pull your legs up by bending your knees. If you did it right your bike should follow your legs into the air. Sorry if that was really confusing just find someone who can do it at your local skate park and look at what they do. A bunnyhop is the hardest trick to explain you just have to get it.

i get it. my bike is heavy (about 38 lbs.) and my pedals aren't real grippy. ( could explain a little y i can't get it) so i can't expect too much

about mid january i am going to get a new bike. probably a haro backtrail X1. its only 30 lbs and has good grippy pedals

Your pedals being grippy dont have anything to do with bunny hopping.. I have bunny hopped fine with completeeeeeely worn down pedals..

Weight doesent matter either.. dont let lese weight concious people fool you.. I learned to ride on a 40+ pound bike and now I can do everything I could do on that on any other bike 5 times better.. learn on a heavy bike and you will be jumping a light one over your house..

go for it man. I would start with a grind box or low ledge first.. you arent limited to just double peg grinds and you dont have to worry as much about balance.

What would be the fun in that. Don't you like telling people how to bunnyhop once a week ...

If you don't like bmxtrix version try reading through

https://free-du.htnet.hr/trials/faq.html

A bunny hop is a bunny hop by any other name. Trials riders call it the j-hop...well...cause they like to rename the wheel. But really...bmxtrix has some awesome descriptions (I don't bmx I used them for my mtb djer) which transcend any discipline of biking (imo)...

Good luck
