If you plan on dropping a G on a bike, you should already know these things. All bikes need headsets. Unless you plan on doing multiple barspins or tailwhips and/or flatland, you don't need a gyro.

All bikes have a headset. ALL
The headset is what contains the bearings that the forks spin on. There is a lower cup and lower bearings, and an upper cup and upper bearings as well as some pieces to keep everything tight and smooth.
The Gyro is a completely separate piece that you can purchase if you want to and need to spin your bars more than once. If you only spin your bars once, or never, then you don't really need a gyro.

Read Bike Basics...
www.bmxtrix.com -> how-to -> fix your bike -> bike basics
It goes over a lot of the parts on a freestyle bike and will give you a reference point on some things you may be looking for.
