Dirt Ramps and Berms-Video
I started making some trails in the woods, back in 1980. I don't go back there anymore, but I was able to get some video shots from a Long Island Rail Road train, as I went by, and again when I returned.
In the first video, you can see the ramps between 6 and 10 seconds into the video.
At between 7 and 18 seconds, you can see another view of the ramps.
Long Island has a lot of clay soil. You might be wondering how the ramps retain their shape, going almost vertical. It's the soil here.
It is harder to gain access since 9-11-01. the Railroad has fenced off the tracks.
The Bike Park is located between the RR tracks and the Golf Course. It is wholly built by kids, and is not sanctioned by any authority. It is between Glen Head and Sea Cliff LIRR Stations... closer to Sea Cliff, on the Eastbound side of the tracks.
