Hello All:
I am in conversation with the owner of a 1992 Waterford Paramount with DuraAce build. The bike is reported to have been unridden. A guy bought it for his wife and she turned up her nose. It is said to have lived in a basement until recently.
Anyway, I would like the frameset but have no interest in the build kit. What do you suppose it would fetch here or over on the PaceLine?

STI or downtube shifters? How complete is the group? Just a few pieces or does it include stuff like hubs, headset, bottom bracket, seatpost, pedals, etc? Should be 8-speed by then, yes?

I will tell you what NOT to do. Don't list the group as NOS, because it's not. List it as you described it, "installed but supposedly never ridden."

If the group is truly complete with seatpost, stem, etc. and STI (92 was a year when it could come either DT or STI OEM) with clincher wheelset, and is truly installed but otherwise unused and not rusty at all, then value is around $500. I'd pay that, did recently for a similar groupset. Less if DT but still with excellent front brake levers and hoods, maybe $400-425. Less than that if no seatpost or stem.

Thanks Rccardr, that might make the deal much more doable! Downtube shifters. Can't really tell if its DuraAce seat post. TTT stem and bar.

I had a 1992 I recently sold that was far cleaner, maybe ridden 5 times.

You guys know a lot more about Paramounts that I do, and the photos are too small for me to make it the bike's details to confirm, BUT that bike looks an awful lot like a Japanese made Schwinn Paramount OS Series 7 frame to me, and not like a U.S. built Waterford Paramount frame.

I'm not sure I'd pay that much for an old DuraAce Group with downtube shifters and single pivot sidepull brake calipers.

There's a certain minimum intrinsic value to Dura Ace in very good (8-9/10) condition. Although the groups not complete, no pedals and seat post, it appears to be in very good condition. Those aero levers with uncracked hoods are the hidden jewel...

Yeah, very hard to tell from those pics but clearly not a DA stem and likely not a DA seatpost. Bar tape does not appear to be original either.

I think it's a Waterford frame- note the fork crown. Pretty sure that all non-Waterford Paramounts used a Unicrown fork. The serial number will confirm.

Wondering if it's actually a (lesser value) 7 speed group as the brakes are 7402 single pivot and by '92 anything OEM would be dual pivot 7403. Certainly possible that it's something built up at the time from a bare frame. Would help to see good clear pictures of the brake tracks on the rims (is there any wear?) and look at the brake pads with the wheels off (same).

7 speed DA is less desireable because the freehubs are all UG and the brake levers require a special ferrule that is often misplaced.

Thanks for all these comments guys, great observations. Sounds like I really need someone to go put eyes on the bike in person. I have a "facilitator request" posted on Paceline but have gotten no responses. Any of you guys happen to be in Chicago?
