Trek Multitrack 720

Been thinking about getting a touring bike and this looks to be one that would be a cheap, upgradable traveling machine.

Frame should fit me, just looking for what a good offer would be and what upgrades would the smarter-than-I bikeforum posters suggest.

Thanks!

Not too old. Not special or premium, but not junk. V-brakes are strong, there are lots of compatible drivetrain parts still available. Should be ok if it's in good enough shape; if it broke down any bike shop would have no trouble at all with it.

A "touring bike" as a marketing category has some special features, but like wrk101 said, you can tour on about anything, and a hybrid like this would probably be a close second, and a lot better than, say, a fixie or a triathlon bike!

Oh, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is broke, Deore parts are great.

The current host for that show is Drew Carey, Bob retired long ago.
Buy it! I like them so much, I have 3, two 700s and one 730. The red ones can be made to look real sweet.

And the grey ones are also nice. My wife has a 700 and a 720 and has been trading off this old 720 against her Cannondale -- and has absolutely no complaints.

I agree those older Treks are great bikes. In fact my mtb is a mid 90's Trek and I love it. I'd offer $50 though, the seller may go for it and if not you can always pony up the entire amount.
