Should I hold tight or what? Sounds pricey ...

It's a great bike, and looks to be in great condition. I have a soft spot for Panasonics, and would love to grab a DX-5000 (or even 4000) one day.
Having said all that, it's very comparable with other mid-to-high end Japanese road bikes of the era (mid-80's). I'd suggest you compare sold prices of a Miyata 912 or Centurion Ironman Master, to name two, which were of comparable frame quality and nearly identical component groups.
I'd have a hard time going over $400.

I rarely comment on pricing because it is so hard to keep up to date with the various markets but the BIN is obviously far overpriced. Based on comparable 1986 models, such as the previously mentioned Centurion Ironman, original price would have been about $500 US. Furthermore, the Ultegra 7 speed shift lever is not going to index properly with the New 600EX, 6 speed cassette.

If you think the ebay seller's DX5000 is overpriced, he listed Suntour pedals for $145.
The bike is for someone 5'4" or shorter. If you can pickup or he can drop off for $400-$450 would be an okay deal. Really clean cosmetics is worth a 10-15% premium.

Yeah, would probably take 400.00 BIN to get it sold for him. BUT, the 5000 is at the very top of the heap in production model Japanese bikes from the 80's if you ask me. And the 600 group from that time is the way to go if you're gonna ride it around. Stuff works like swiss clockworks.

But you can get an Ironman which is comparable.

Not sure if this is close to you or not but this looks like a pretty good bike for a pretty good price. It might be a bit bigger than the one on eBay

Assuming the OP is a noob, even at $100, that will become a $400 project, especially with the likelihood of no wrenching experience. A decent saddle, consumables, tires, and new matching rims and he is adding $350.

Ya, I looked at that but would have to pay someone for the more complex tasks of assembly and tuning.
