Schwinn Sting-Ray serial number
My brother-in-law asked me sell a Sting-Ray he bought twenty or so years ago when his kids were small. I really know nothing about them (my interests are in the lightweight C&V area - see my sig). From what little research I've done, it does appear to be an original Sting-Ray, not a reproduction. It has smooth transitions from the head tube to top and down tubes and the telltale joints on the chainstays where the electro-forge transition wasn't smoothed. Looking at the serial number, I read it as "JAK10736", but that didn't work in the serial number decoders I found. "AK10736" makes it a 1974. Is this really a "J", or just some artifact from when the serial number was stamped into the head tube?

I believe that is a 1998 Chinese reproduction, unfortunately not quite the real thing. More on that here: Help | The Classic and Antique Bicycle Exchange
