Late 1980 something Bianchi Grizzly
So I tried getting my hands on a road converted Bianchi hybrid last week, and it sold before I could get to it. Then this week, another Bianchi shows up which I would have to convert myself, but I'm ok with that. Not quite celeste, but still a shade of blue/teal. I know very little about Bianchi, other than this is an mtb, and I know the answer is usually "what it's worth to you", but I'm soliciting opinions on if it's worth my time and money.
Listed at $160, frame looks solid from pictures but does have chips and decals missing. I've been talking back and forth with the seller and hes been very forthcoming which is nice to see. Headset says made in Taiwan, and that Campione Del Mondo sticker is present, the worst of the paint rub is in that last photo. Comes with original Araya wheels and Sakae SA crank, also a pre 1989 red Cannondale bag because why not.

That's a serviceable bike. You can do better for $160 but (a) it's a bianchi and those usu. get a premium and (b) how long are you willing to wait for something better. The price isn't terrible but it is on the high side given the condition of the paint and the parts group.

Got the bike for $140, and other than the paint, it's in pretty good condition. The derailleurs and brakes match years and were made in late '86, so my guess is this is a '87 model, but I've had a hard time getting information past that. Unfortunately the decals are mostly in poor shape or possibly missing all together. I can just make out a sticker on the off side of the fork that said "Cr-mo" in white stylized letters, attached picture is the seat tube sticker that seems to be partly missing. It seems to say "Cr-mo Main Tubes", but I can't read it clearly, and it doesn't seem to match any other decal I can find online. The head badge sticker is also slightly different colouring from others I've seen, but I also haven't found any other frame this colour on Google searches. Anyone have some insight on this?

The frame in your pictures resemble the Bianchi I just got last week. Mine is white with a pinkish, violet lettering with a blue arrow stripe. Unfortunately someone peeled off most of the stickers and repainted mine. I only found out what it is after stripping away some paint. Mine does have a different but original handle bar set up from the top pick. Someone on here was able to tell me that mine was an 88-89 made in the Taiwan factory as Bianchi's were made all over depending on cost. Mine has the cantilever brakes on it. It's really hard to find any info on these and like you, I haven't seen any other on the Internet in my color

People put too much stock in the World Championship sticker. The bikes would not have been any different id Moreno had lost in '86.
I need a bit more info/pics but I think you have a '876 Maxx not a Grizzly. Is there a model name on the rims? What shifters on on it? The rear deraileur is a replacement

I know the champion sticker doesn't mean much, I only mentioned it because the frame must have been made at least '86 or later since it is present. Rims say Araya 26x1.5, unfortunately the shifters are very likely replacements too, and missing any information on the rear shifter. What would you like pictures of? I took a bunch the one day it was sunny this week.

Actually, on closer inspection now that I'm home, the shifters are Shimano SL-MS40, date code KK on both. The rear shifter is missing whatever button is supposed to be on the top hiding the spring, and will need to be replaced eventually.

Well I am thinking it is a MAXX, it looks more Turquoise than Aqua to me. I wonder if the shifers and RD (Is the front shipmano too?) were a OEM change or just a repair change.

Yeah, the front is also Shimano, FD-AX55 which I can't seem to find information on. The rear is RD-M531, which should make it Deore but that doesn't seem right. Brakes are also Shimano BR-AT50, and everything is coded either KK, KJ or KL, so late '86. I've never had a group on a bike not match exactly though, which makes me wonder if you're right about the aftermarket change. Only thing that doesn't match is the levers, which are Chang-Star. It's too bad Bianchi serial numbers can't be decoded much.
