Proteus & Bill Lewis
I picked up these two today. Anybody know more about them and what they might be worth?

There is a Proteus shop in College Park, Maryland that sold tube kits and custom frames in Reynolds 531 back in the Seventies. They were the place to obtain genuine waterslide decals/transfers for your 531 frame set. I don't know if they still make frames, but the shop is still in business.

I'm pretty sure that there were two - unrelated - brands with the Proteus name; the other was in the UK.

I work just down the road from the one in College Park.
That's about where the similarity ends. There is still at least one of the original Proteus framesets hanging in the rafters, but most everything else, save the repair station has changed considerably from what it was in the '70's.
I don't have their frame building book any more, but still have a frame kit stashed away someplace.
The bike the OP has does not look like the Proteus I am referring to. However, they did sell frame kits so it's hard to determine what would be a correct build. Perhaps the OP could post up a photo of the Proteus decal. That might help some.
I think Aaron is correct is his statement of two different manufacturers named Proteus.

There is a shop in College Park called Proteus, at the same location. There was also a location down in DC.

Late to the game, but, Bill Lewis owned Adirondack Bicycles in Scotia, NY. His shop was about 200 sq. feet and he lived above it where he also hand built frames for special order. As a kid, my bike friend nuts and I would bug the crap out of him hanging out at his shop. Still have the Bill Lewis?
