1989-1990 Bianchi Super Grizzly MTB value?
Trying to help a friend find a new home for his Bianchi Super Grizzly but could really use a ballpark on what one of these is worth. Tange Prestige tubing and Deore XT. The bike is all original aside from maybe the saddle and tires. (Tires have now been changed to Panaracer Smoke and Dart)
Thanks in advance for some ballpark figures.

I agree with Fred. As others here will say older MTBs have little value with a few exceptions and a Grizzly seems to be one. This one however is not Celeste which will detract from its value.
This time of year in Plymouth MN some college kid might buy it for $150 or so off of CL. If you sepend an hour or so really cleaning and detailing it and are willing to facilitate shipping (at buyers expense) you might get closer to $300 off ebay.
What size is it? A girl I know is looking for one to replace hers.

This is an old thread, but I have found a Super Grizzly frame in good shape for not much $$. 1. Are these Prestige tubing? 2. Could a 21" (about a 53cm) be built on 700c as a touring bike? I have a smoking hot ultegra 6500 groupset laying around not earning its keep..

2. Yes, but not 700c. The cantilever brake mounting posts are set up for 26" MTB rims, a far cry from 700c. However, 26" rims with narrow slicks are very efficient and available as narrow as 1.25" or about 32cm.
3. Is your ultegra group a triple crank or double?

I don't think they were Prestige, any idea of the year?
There is a great thread on here about MTB drop bar conversions you might check that out for inspiration.

I forgot about the cantilever brake set up. Right...won't work with ultegra sti. Or maybe it would with shifters and derailleurs...too much trouble. Also have an LX group laying around, that would work. The frame is a powder coat repaint--seller showed me photos of the frame before painting, and it had a Tange sticker that was damaged, so you couldn't see what it was beyond the word, "Tange". There is some evidence that Bianchi used different tubing depending on year, and at least a few were built with Prestige. HEre is a photo of a SuperGrizzly that is clearly Prestige (the site has several photos, I just copied the salient depiction of the Prestige sticker):

After more reading, I have answered my own question: The SG did have a few models with Prestige, but not many, and there are several sites that suggest the Celeste were low end entry level Tange (what, maybe Tange 3?). The one I am looking at was originally Celeste. This is the frame itself, with a powder recoat:

A couple years ago I picked up an early '90s Grizzly for my wife. She only rides on paved trails so I put on a set of 26 x 1.25 slicks for her. It has worked out really well for her. She likes the upright ride and the bike is pretty fast with the slicks.

Judging black/Celeste paint and the stay mounted canitlevers this is an '89 frame and was indeed made with prestige, although there is no mention of the fork material.
To bad it got repainted that speckle was pretty funky.

Thank you Bianchi Girl. May I clarify: The frame in post no. 9 is the frame available to me. It was Celeste, and I saw photos from the seller--paint in very poor shape, but tubes looked good and no rust. The sticker was Tange, but you could not tell if it said Prestige or what. The speckled paint depicted in post no. 8 was posted simply to prove that at least some SGs were Prestige. It is not the bike in post no. 9. Just to clarify. Having said that, do you conclude the frame in No. 9 (originally Celeste) might be Prestige? If so it is worth it for me to purchase and work with it.
