1988 Peugeot Sante
Hi everyone,
New to the forum, name's Dan.
My dad's had this bike since 1993, when he bought it at a yard sale for around $200. Since about 1995, it's been either sitting or hanging in the garage. I've only recently gotten into cycling, so I never inquired about the bike until now. The previous owner had covered the entire frame with blue paint, but based on quite a bit of research, I've determined this bike to be a 1988 Peugeot Sante. Everything but the paint job, bar tape and the seat is still original, including all of the Sante components like headset, hubs, etc and the Mavic MA40 wheels. This model supposedly has the Reynolds 531 Professional tubing that rings a lot when you tap on it.
What do you guys think this bike would be worth? I do need a beater bike to ride around town and to be able to lock it up without worrying about theft, so I'm thinking of selling it. Should I part the Sante group out and keep the frame for a fixie or sell it whole?

What's the problem with using your dad's bike as the beater bike? Does it not fit? Nothing like a bad paint job to keep the roving eyes away

Thanks for the responses, guys. GermanyChris is right. It's economic waste. The bike has perceived value to some, but to me, the Sante group doesn't really do much. I'd rather have a beater bike or two in its place.
@wrk101: Thanks for the acetone tip. I will give it a shot.
@IthaDan: Sorry, but I'm in the opposite corner of the country: Los Angeles.
If the acetone doesn't clean it up, I'll probably just part it out and sell the groupset on the bay.

Given what POS bikes go for in LA, I doubt with all your effort you'd come out ahead with any meaningful cash in your pocket.

The frame is a 57 cm, but I will probably keep it to build my own fixie. This steel frame rides a lot better than my carbon frame. Thanks for the interest, though.

Ha! I just made you an offer on this frame on eBay, only to find it here in research. Funny.

Regarding the Sante group, it will only be worth lots if the distinctive metallic white finish on the components are in very good or like new condition. If it is all scuffed/scratched up, the resale value on them goes way down...... That's why the Sante group never seemed to make sense to me as the fancy finish on them seems to be the focus for most Sante fans (so it's usually a love it or hate it thing with the Sante Group for I suspect, a lot of people.). That's the usual downside to having other than a clear anodized finish on components. It usually does not take long before normal use would atrt ravaging the nice colored finish on them.. Clear anodized components tend to look new much longer because wear and scratches aren't as easy to see on them.
