There's no accounting for taste (early Marin bikes)

It has been interesting reading some of the appraisal and inquiry threads the past few days and even getting some input on a bike i will be selling soon

That said, --- its funny, but sometimes all you need is the right bike to strum the heart strings of the right person .
My first road serious road bike was a Marin Limited ---- couldnt find a pic of an example online, but its the same color scheme as this mountain bike below, and similar to the Team Z bikes of the time period also

I logged countless miles on that thing -- tubing was Tange, and the bike was not a flyweight, - about 23 pounds. And had a DT Shimano 105 group on it

A well kept example today might be worth $300 ,if that, but if i found one in my size, i would gladly pay twice that just to try and re-kindle old memories ----

I guess that would be an example of an "Outlier" sale , -- its hard to account for emotional purchases or impulse purchases in any market

I guess i could find someone to paint up my late model with that "shock and awe" color scheme and let the good times roll though also

I flipped one of those Marin MTBs several years ago. A very nice bike but way beyond what I think is appealing.

As a tangent; your post is exactly why some folks price pristine bikes so high. If I get a truly great, original and complete bicycle; I'll rehab and detail it, then price it high. An item is worth what someone will pay.

I have a black and dayglo orange Trek 990 and a Gary Fisher Hoo Kee e Koo with equally "unique" paint schemes.

I would love a funky painted bike like this.

I to really like the bold two tone paint jobs of the late 80's early 90's. The matching extended stems gave these bikes a look that was unique to a fairly short time frame.

Thats it Clang ! ---- Cool pic --- Just miles and miles of carefree rides before i ever worried about trying to race the silly things ---- That pic reminds me of riding before heart rate monitors and power meters --- when it was enough to say "I rode to such and such town today , had some coffee - and then back "

Good stuff --- I loved the loud paint job because i was too young to know better ,

This is the original paint and setup on an antique Aquila with 105 group that I picked up at a garage sale for next to nothing because it was too unlovely to ride.

It was the tri bars not the color scheme that scared the dog.
