1984 Nishiki Cresta

First time posting, but I've creeped a few other related threads. I bought a cheap commuter from my local co-operative and wanted to know what I had. T-Mar's https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...-database.html helped me figure out that what I got was a 1984 Kawamura made frame, and I think it's in pretty decent condition for a beater. I put about 20 minutes of work into it replacing the crusty old foam that was falling off the handlebars and cleaning up the chain, and it runs absolutely beautifully now. Basically I just want to know if what I have is actually worth something (even if it's not I'm still loving it). I don't have access to the bike right now, put I'll update with pictures when I get home. From my extremely limited knowledge, a lot of stuff looks like it might be original, but I can't read a lot of the labels.

I'm going to disagree with Thrifty Bill and I don't do that often on the value of a bike. Those shifters may not be original but the suntour ratcheting shifters are some of the best (if not the best) non-indexing shifters made. What is hurting the value of the bike is the overall condition.

Sounds to me like I got a decent deal for 60 bucks then. I took it out for a test after I cleaned it up and it's running pretty great at least. Probably going to turn into a project bike.

-Your pictures seem to rotate around the same 4 shots. Too bad. Would like to see more of the bike. Nishiki + Kawamura + Sugino + Suntour = Very sweet ride. I would have paid $60 just for the parts on it. Be good. Have fun.

Hi dzewa,

from the decals the bicycle is a 1985 model year for the USA market. Cresta was a touring bike.

Tange 2 CrMo Seamless double butted tube set. Very nice frame.

As mentioned the shifters are not orginal. Also the front and rear derailleurs do not look original for a Cresta.

Was this bike originally sold in Canada? There is a bike store label on the seat tube. Odd to see a USA market bicycle that far from the US border, but it happens.

I biked across America on a Cresta and loved it. Unfortunately, I stored it in my mother's cellar and when I moved out of the house she let the trash man take it. Someday I will own one again. BTW, here is someone who totally pimped out his Cresta. .
