Place a fair value on my expedition ?

Looking for a (better) idea of a fair value for my 80's expedition.

Also, can anyone pin the year of this bike?

Wheels are not original they're inexpensive 700c wheels, some rust around lugs (concern?), new rubber parts and bike is tuned and ready to go.

Any comments or criticisms are welcomed. Appreciate the wealth of knowledge here.

Look at either derailleur on the inside of each component- there will be a 2 letter stamp which will tell younwhen the component was manufactured. You will then know the bike is that year or later.
Look up the date code on vintagetrek.com

Pretty nice bike. Triple crank, 3 bottle mounts, and some historic shifting components.

$400 all tuned up with new bar tape and tires(which i see are on the bike).
Less if the bike hasnt been serviced in forever.

Tuned up, I'd go higher. I asked about a bike like this in another thread-https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...xpedition.html

Seems like $500-700 was the going answer, probably worth closer to the top end in a good market with some patience and the right buyer. it's a classic high-end touring frame from the era when the Trek 720 and Miyata 1000 were going strong.

1984 model. The 1983's didn't have the Specialized "S" embossed into the top of the fork crown. Agree with the $500-$600 assessment; non original wheels and pedals detract a bit from overall value. The 51 cm frame size came with a slightly sloping top tube that yours has. San Diego bicycle? I see a Kearney Mesa shop sticker on the frame. Nice bike!

I have one of these in very rough shape and have kept an eye on them as I look to fix it up. I've seen this bike on people's wish lists and I think the right buyer would give $500-$700 for yours. I like that you've stuck with the original Mountech bits (against popular opinion I'm sure) but the size limits it to some degree.

I'm thinking it is circa 1986, provided the rear derailleur is OEM. The three pulley cages came out in 1985 and Nishiki, who co-developed them with SunTour, had a one year exclusive deal on their use. Regardless, the serial number may allow us to determine the exact year.
