Bianchi Super Corsa for $4950

Since I acquired my Bianchi Superleggera, I'd been looking around for its richer sister, the Super Corsa. This bike is the only one that's come up. My understanding is that the Super Corsa has the same frame as the Superleggera, with the only difference being in the build. Is the SC really worth multiples of the SL or is this seller just out to enrich his retirement account?

I've been fortunate to own top models built by De Rosa and Colnago from this era for a fraction of the price of this Bianchi. If a very wealthy person wanted a classic, top-of-the-line celeste Bianchi, ready-to-ride or preserve, this might have some appeal.

If I just won the lottery I might show up with a wad of Benjamins, maybe 30 and If that didn't get it done oh well the seller can take it to ebay. It's a lovely bike and my size I have sold a couple of lesser Celeste Bianchi's in my size and wish I hadn't.

The devil is in the details, and this is way overpriced for a few reasons. Firstly, it has no special provenance, so the price can only be based upon the fact that it's a top-of-the-line bike with full pantographing. Okay, but that's not going to make it a 5k bike on it's own. Add to that the fact that the brake hoods are cheap Euro-Asia Imports versions, the Mavic OR rims don't match...I know, this sounds like nitpicking but if one's going to try to get 5k for a bike that's probably worth more like 2k, come on - you've gotta see to the tiniest of details.

2k, max. This is a grail bike for me, and I'd only go to 1.7k. If someone out there thinks it's worth more, I'd be glad to hear their reasoning.

Beautiful bike in excellent condition.

I agree, it is way richer than I'd be interested in. Maybe if it had Campagnolo 50th Anniversary in pristine condition.

What is happening with the right shifter, photo 5?

I suppose I also like to ride bikes, and I'd hate to take that one down off the wall. Bikes aren't paintings.

My only guess is that the backing plate is for the porta'
( spell check keeps not letting me fully spell it)
And the lever is not - finally see it on a big monitor,, just set off to the chain rest position.

Quick answer is no. The Corsa is the same as the Leggera except for the SR group, portacatena, everest freewheel and OR 7 vs OR 10 rims. Yes it is rarer (quite rare) but it is not a $5k bike. I got lucky once and sold a Super Leggera from the early 80s that was in pristine condition to a gentleman from Dubai who wanted an L'Eroica bike. I did not really want to sell but he offered $4k plus shipping and I took it. So yes someone out there might pay that much but they would be paying well above market.

That's in the overshift slot of the Portacatena - note there is a 6-speed FW out back. Normally the setup was for a 5-speed with the overshift slot allowing the shift over to the chain holder once the button on the lever was depressed. Here, it takes it only to the last cog. Someone adjusted it incorrectly.

Thanks,

I now see the button on the bottom of the shift lever. I don't think I've ever seen it before. My Campy levers definitely didn't have it, and I've picked up a few spares without it.

But, then again, my old Colnago never had the Portacatena either.

Apparently this Bianchi has the Portacatena integrated into the rear dropout.

And thus the overshift option.

Pretty cool idea, as long as one isn't mounting a larger rear freewheel/cassette, and thus using all the space.

It screws on to the back of the dropout at two points. You see a lot of framesets from that time with the threaded holes on the DS dropout, ready to accept it but not have the system installed.

I agree with you. And I believe that the SuperLeggera is just as beautiful for significantly less.

Personally, I believe NR looks better on a Celeste/chrome Bianchi so I prefer your Superleggera. Again, a grail bike for me. I think everyone thought 1700USD was fair for this bike, and I would agree. The Super Corsa about the same, really. Just a few Super Record components make the difference...

I like it when the CL seller pops up on this forum and argues over the valuation that is given for the bike. I'd love to hear what went into the seller's calculation of the price.
