Lemond Nevada City

I've been browsing for a steel bike and came across this ~2000s lemond. It was lemond's cheapest bike at the time, but I understand that the frame was great and the parts added were just cheaper. Whoever owned this bike really loved it because they replaced all the stock Sora for ultegra 6500. It also strangely has dura ace downtube shifters. The wheels are open pros on ultegra hubs.

It's priced at $190 which would usually be a steal. The only thing is there is a small dent in the seat stay near the seat. It's hard to notice because the paint is dark

Is it worth it with the dent?

Ps. I'm new here so I'm not allowed to post photos yet.

I'd say it's still a good deal if it's your size. I had one of these and liked it a lot. I can't see the dent, but it sounds like just a cosmetic issue. If it doesn't bother you I don't see a reason to worry about it.

As the seat stay is a small diameter tube of major importance, we'd need to see a close up of it.

Good price, but depends on the dent..a closeup of it would help. I believe this is a 2001 with 853 main tubes and 525 stays, cro-moly fork.not a bad thing at all. With ultegra on it..heck of an inexpensive entry into a great steel frame/bike.

Hmm..it was originally spec'd with a triple crank(if it was swapped out..no biggy) and STI shifters. This one has downtube shifters..odd.

Not Ultegra originally, Sora or RSX I can't recall.

Whelp, I bought the bike. I have three days to return it, but it's looking good. I'll post detailed picks soon.

Sora in 2001-03, Sora/Tiagra in 2004..but '04 was an aluminum frame.

That's pretty much the last year of the quill stem for Lemond (I think it was '01 for the cheaper bikes). 853 Steel, right? The stays are of tougher stuff. Great find...

...are you sure it's not a CF fork? Kind of like the retro downtube shifting bit tho...

Yup, quill stem and a cro-mo fork. Even the headset is Ultegra. The downtube shifters attachment points look original. Interesting. 2001 bike with downtube shifters. Weired. I also upgraded to a very lightly used brooks saddle for $40. I'm liking this bike more and more.

Does anybody know how to find the what frame material this was made of? I can't find the iconic sticker... Am I just being incredibly daft?

The main triangle is Reynolds 853. Other tubes likely 525. I'm guessing someone bought it and built it up with parts bin items, hence the DA shifters. It came with cable stops that had barrel adjusters originally. You can get all of the specifics by googling 2001 Lemond Nevada City.

The sticker should be on the downtube just above the bottom bracket. It is or was just below the other sticker that shows in your pics.

Yeah, I agree with you. Just confused why there is no Reynolds decal.

Your decal is just missing. On my Nevada City it was at the bottom of the downtube, as TugaDude said. You can see it in this picture and see that this is the same frame you have.

(I feel the need to explain that this picture shows the bike in the condition I bought it in. I wasn't responsible for the flat bars or fat seat and I replaced them immediately.)
