His & hers 1971 Schwinn Paramount Tourist bicycles (Correction - Suburbans)
I was given a ladies 19" and a men's 22" schwinn
paramount bicycles 1971(?). They have been hanging in a garage for many years without being used and look to be in pretty decent shape. I do not know much about bikes but they appear to me as if they were taken care of well when they were used I believe the model numbers are 622 and 669. Are these good bikes for riding today if they were cleaned up and restored or is that just a waste of time? What kind of value do they hold?

They are valuable, but will need a complete overhaul. Post detailed photos to aid in appraisal.

Paramounts are valuable bikes for vintage riders or collectors -

Paramount model numbers for 1971 would have been P13-9, P14-9 and P15-9. A 622 is a ladies 10-speed Surburban. Photos will help.

+10 Those model numbers are for his and her Suburbans. Not Paramounts. 669 = womens Suburban, 622 = mens suburban.

The Paramount Tourist (available only in a Men's version) was discontinued in 1968. The Suburban was a Schwinn tourist model introduced in 1970. In "decent shape" the Men's model might be worth $100 while the Ladies' model would be worth about $50.

Omg you are so right. They are suburban. I was looking up the paramount for my friend at the same time. I'm so sorry and very embarrassed. I'll get some pictures for you.

Depending on condition, I've paid $10 or less for a Suburban (needed tires, cables, bearings, grease, clean up, but cosmetically good). Women's model has the lowest value. They are super heavy, off the charts really.
Refreshing a neglected Suburban takes me $50 in parts, and four hours in time. For this, I might get $100 to $125 for it, and that will take a while (mens model) So even if I get the bike for free, there really is no room to make anything for my time. Women's model brings less, and takes as much time and the same parts to refresh. So I avoid either of them.
As cool, retro styled keepers, perhaps to loan out to visitors or whatever, sure, they could be nice and worth the effort! Those old electro-forged Schwinns have a classic look to them.

Are they green by chance? My parents bought a pair of green Suburbans in Atlanta sometime back around 1970 a men's & a woman's step through model. I remember what a chore it was to just ride the thing around the block. I think they weighed something like 40 or 50 lbs. each. Those are some sturdy bikes! You know what I always say: When the planet explodes those old Suburbans will still be floating around in space forever.

A lot of these were sold in matching pairs in the 70's nice basic riders but a bit heavy. I would put the value on a nice matched pair in good basically original condition at about $200 depending a bit on market.
