198X Stumpjumper
Acquired this stumpy last year or so, rode it a bit, that's about all. Just wondering what she is worth.
Frame is on the small side, has what I believe are original components.

The Sport was a subordinate model.
Top range locally seem to sit at anything over $200.

Value seems to vary depending on location, but I'd second that $200 seems fair as it sits. Definitely some nice parts that could fetch more on ebay. Those thumb shifters alone usually sell for $40+. Are the cranks Sugino AT?

FYI, what you have is a 1984 Specialized Stumpjumper Sport manufactured in late 1983.

Mountain bike prices are all over the map. I've gotten high end ones for significantly less than $200 but the sport is an early stumpy and that will appeal to a collector. Those bikes don't come up often and the asking prices I've seen for early Stumpies have all been higher than $200. I know I'd pay $200 for an early stumpy like that with a biplane fork and I really, really don't need another bike let alone another vintage MTB.

About a year ago, there was a fairly early 17in StumpJumper with the 24in wheels put up for sale on CraigsList, out West. A "Sport" model, IIRC. Was originally posted at ~$500 or so, and hung around apparently unsold for many months. Saw another 17/24 combo for about half that, in not quite as good of shape. I've seen the occasional one in the ~$150 range, and many in the $350-450 range. A couple of "fully restored" examples have been upwards of $600, sometimes several hundred dollars more.
Would love to find a 17/24 frame+wheel combination somewhere near my area. Imagine ... a bike that might actually fit me. That would be something.
