Ross Paragon evaluation and year of fabrication
The bike has a nice paint.
Brooks saddle, bar end Suntour shifters, Ishiwata 024 tubing.
Suntour Superbe front derailleur, Shimano Altus rear derailleur.
I am planning to replace the derailleurs with Suntour Cyclone.
Any idea if the year of fabrication and what's the value.
Thank you

The subject bicycle appears to be a 1983 model, maybe 1984. The serial number will provide confirmation. I'll defer to other members on current value.

Nice bike. Mid-level vintage Japanese from a lower-end brand. Ross did have some signature editions or some such. I’ll assume this is not one of those. You’ll see bikes like this valued as low as $100 and as high as $300. Local market is a big factor to determining value.
This bike’s strong point is its very nice condition. Weaker points are the brake hoods and low brand cachet.
In my hood and with new hoods, I think $175-$200.

I would agree this is a 83/84 bike at this time Ross bikes were still being made in the USA. If give us the serial someone should be able to confirm the year and were it was made. As for value I would place it around $200 with the cables and bartape hoods redone they look pretty rough compared to the rest of the bike and really need to be replaced fixed up to sell this bike at a good price.

Thank you for your replies.
It is a nice ride actually.
I'll see how it feels with the Cyclone.on it.

Ross actually made a full range of bikes from walmart level kids bikes up to Team race level road and BMX bikes in the 80's.

This Paragon is from the period when Ross was at it's most prestigious level. The Signature line of high grade models had only been introduced a couple of years earlier and would be significantly watered down a couple of years later. The Paragon didn't aspire to Signature status but was still a nice, if curiously spec'd, mid-range model. Those proprietary Ross fork safety dropouts only add to it's perplexing nature.
