1985, Performance Frame Columbus SLX
Thinking of e-baying my old road bike, havent got a clue to value or start price.
1985 Performance frame, Columbus slx, all campy super record, frame a little scratched up, components excellent.
Am I better off breaking it apart and jobbing out individual components.( Bike is in 100% riding condition.)

Eric, I am not sure but if you look at the bottom bracket I think you will see the letters BMZ that stands for Biemzetta(sp). I had one that had Shimano parts that I sold for $400 and the buyer came to Boston from NY to get it. BMZ is a large manufacturer and I have seen the same BMZ on some entry level bikes from some very well thought of Italian brands. They also built the bikes for Palo Alto that are very highly though of. I can't tell you the price but up the parts on ebay under closed sales you might get more by parting the bike out. The Performance name on the frame won't get the respect the frame deserves. I'd buy it if I needed another bike.

There is a Palo Alto on Craigs list in SF Bay area with the same equipment listed for $1,250.

I promised some pictures, hope these help. There is a small spot/bulge in front of the lug attaching the top tube to the head. Also, the SLX decal is smushed from a pump bracket, (should I replace it?) I have the original Cinneli stem and the original Super Record pedals. Bottom Bracket stamp says "SR". So what do you all think I should do with it.
(I have a brand new road bike, and have become partial to index shifting on the levers.)

Your "bulge" is indication of a crash, and is going to keep a lot of buyers away. Particularly those that would desire and pay up for the Super Record components.
I'm not a fan of parting original bikes out, but this is one that I would. Just about any buyer would buy it for the components, include zero for the frame, and subtract the extra cost of shipping a whole bike versus the component group only. So frame = net negative.
That stem is a negative as well.

I hope the crash test dummy survived. This is a part out. Adieu to the frame. Maybe the fork is worth something if not tweaked.

Realestvin7, I'm not sure if I can give that info, per the rules of the forum.
Maybe a moderator could explain.

Well, My e-bay auction finished this week. As luck would have it the winner was local, so we avoided packing and shipping. I disclosed the frame damage in my add and included a close-up pic. The Bike had a total of 9 bidders and sold for $565.00, I'm satisfied. Now I'm going MTB shopping.
